Christina Milian, the American actress and singer, has announced her family’s plans to return to the United States after three years living in Paris. Milian relocated to France in 2023 with her husband, French singer and rapper Matt Pokora, and their children, but now intends to make a fresh start back in America.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Milian, 44, reflected on her experiences abroad, highlighting both the challenges and joys of living in a different country. “There’s parts of me that misses maybe going to a red carpet at the drop of a dime in Hollywood. But then I’m like, ‘Well, I’ll be back,’” she said. Her family is making the transition back to America in time for the children’s schooling, as her youngest two, Kenna and Isaiah, have not yet attended school in the U.S.
The family initially made the move to France in the summer of 2023 after years of juggling life between Hollywood and Paris. They had been commuting every six months for several years before deciding to commit to living in France full-time. Milian explained the motivation behind their decision, stating, “We decided to commit to it last year because our kids were going to go to school.”
While residing in Paris, Milian found a unique rhythm that allowed her to blend family life with work. The nine-hour time difference between Paris and Los Angeles enabled her to dedicate her daytime hours to her family while reserving the evening for her Hollywood career, which involves telephone calls and meetings. “My daytime, I get to do the family stuff,” she said in a previous interview. “I work out. I do my self-care thing. I cook dinner. Usually, things really kind of get started around 7 p.m.”
As the family prepares for their return to the U.S., Milian’s involvement in the entertainment industry is ramping up. She recently attended the Cannes Film Festival and the Cannes Lions Festival with Pokora, where she felt re-energised and passionate about her acting and producing career. “I felt the emotion and the passion of people in this industry that I love,” she remarked. “I think there’s a fuel that’s within me when it comes to this industry and when it comes to entertainment and film.”
Milian married Pokora in 2020, having first crossed paths at a restaurant in France three years prior. The couple currently has two children together, Kenna, aged five, and Isaiah, six. Milian also has a 16-year-old daughter, Violet, from her previous relationship with music producer The-Dream.
Despite their imminent move, Milian has indicated that her family’s bond with France will remain intact. In discussions earlier this year, she described Paris as a “landmark place for us to stay most of our lives.” However, she acknowledged a feeling of being “never settled,” and expressed that their roots extend far and wide.
