The production will showcase Tiffany in the role of Linda Gustafson, a housewife who finds camaraderie and empowerment through aerobics after befriending a former gymnastics star turned aerobics instructor. Accompanying her are Lorraine Stubenski, played by Sims Lamason, and Dori Jenson, portrayed by Catherine Ashmore Bradley. Together, they face off against the antagonistic gym owner by competing in a fictional aerobics championship, the Crystal Light National Aerobics Championship, a nod to the era’s fitness craze.
Tiffany expressed her excitement about the role, commenting on how this experience represents a full-circle moment in her career. Despite her success as a musician, she revealed that her initial aspirations were rooted in dancing and acting, dreams that were put on hold when her music career took off. “Stepping onto the Off-Broadway stage… feels like a true full-circle moment for me,” she stated in a recent interview.
The character of Linda resonates with Tiffany’s own journey of reinvention. “Just as Linda discovers a new passion through aerobics that changes her life, I’ve found exciting new passions beyond music,” she noted. Her new ventures include her Pop Life cookbook and various live events. The singer teased that the production even includes “Easter eggs” for her long-time fans, hinting at personal moments woven into the story.
“Spandex The Musical” has been described as a blend of “The Karate Kid” and “A Chorus Line,” with a celebration of the colourful and energetic aerobics scene of the 1980s, complete with a vibrant aesthetic of neon and spandex. The limited engagement will premiere on 19th September; however, the musical will start its run earlier on the 17th as part of a 10-day event. Tiffany’s involvement, especially given her longstanding connection to the themes of self-discovery and empowerment, adds a significant draw for audiences.

The musical, having already seen development in Minneapolis as well as New York City in collaboration with Crunch Fitness, will see Liz Piccoli in the roles of both director and choreographer. In addition to Tiffany, the cast will feature Nawaf Nooruddin and William Boyajian, with further announcements regarding casting expected shortly.
