The confrontation occurred at a McDonald’s located on Winchester Road during the week of July 5. According to an affidavit reviewed by local news outlet Fox 13, tensions escalated while Wise and Payne were both in the drive-thru lane. It is alleged that when Payne exited the vehicle holding their child, Wise intentionally tried to strike her with the car.

Witnesses at the scene reported observing Wise’s reckless behaviour, claiming he attempted to hit Payne multiple times as she left the vehicle. The extent of the confrontation prompted bystanders to alert the police, leading to a significant police response.

Upon arriving at the McDonald’s, law enforcement was informed that Wise had fled the scene. A police pursuit ensued as he drove on Ridgeway Road, reportedly weaving through traffic at high speed and endangering multiple individuals, including children. Police later apprehended Wise and discovered an 11-year-old child was also present in the vehicle during the incident.
Due to the nature of his actions, Wise is facing substantial legal repercussions. The charges against him encompass two counts of aggravated assault, a domestic assault charge, and reckless driving. Following his arrest, Wise was able to secure a release on bond, reportedly amounting to £10,000, on July 8. He is scheduled to appear in court next on August 17.
The incident has raised eyebrows within the local community, prompting discussions about safety and domestic disputes. Asia Dickerson, a resident, expressed her dismay regarding the event, stating, “It’s sad, you know, and it’s crazy how people can just do that to kids.” She continued, “It’s typical out here in Memphis. It’s really nothing new, and I hate that that type of stuff happens out here.”
The Memphis Police Department has been contacted for further comments on the case, as the public and local officials await further developments in the legal proceedings against Wise. The matter reflects ongoing concerns about domestic violence and child safety within the community, highlighting the need for continued awareness and preventive measures against such incidents.
Local fast-food establishments, such as McDonald’s, often serve as social hot spots, and when violence breaks out in these locations, it not only shocks the immediate participants but also reverberates through the wider community. As populations intersect at communal spaces, events like these can serve to galvanise public dialogue on safety concerns and the welfare of children caught in domestic disputes.
As the case continues to unfold, observers will be following Wise’s court appearances closely, eager for more information on the judicial process and any potential legislative movements aimed at addressing the underlying issues that lead to such distressing incidents.
