In an unexpected turn of events, Sally Peavy and her family are embarking on a new chapter, moving to a larger home in South Carolina. The family had not planned to relocate this year, but an attractive property just five minutes from their current residence changed their minds. Peavy, 35, shared her experiences across social media platforms, specifically TikTok, documenting the challenges of juggling a home sale alongside the demands of work and family life.

The new house, built in 2003, boasts three acres of land, a considerable increase from the .19-acre lot of their existing home. “We have loved our current home and neighbourhood, but we often wished for a bit more space for our children to enjoy,” Peavy explained. After submitting an offer that was accepted, the family was faced with an urgent timeline, needing to secure a buyer for their current home within 30 days.

Peavy’s TikTok updates have charted the family’s journey through this demanding process. She has shared insights into their efforts, including packing, decluttering, and preparing for the emotional farewell to a house filled with treasured memories. “I started documenting our journey each day to bring others along with us,” she said.

As she navigated the complexities of selling their home, Peavy highlighted that packing and painting were the two key tasks that they undertook to make their house market-ready. “We packed about 15 boxes to declutter, which felt overwhelming. We also added a fresh coat of paint in all main living areas to make the space look cleaner,” she recounted. This preparation helped in presenting the home in its best light, crucial for attracting potential buyers.
However, the showings proved to be the most challenging aspect of the process. With both parents holding full-time jobs and managing two children and two pets, keeping the home pristine and ready for viewings with minimal notice was stressful. “For 18 days, we received positive feedback during showings but no offers, which was incredibly disheartening,” Peavy shared.
To create a welcoming atmosphere, Peavy even drew on personal touches during an open house. She arranged flowers from their garden with heartfelt notes to visitors. Yet, despite these efforts, interest did not convert into offers, leaving the family concerned about their future move.
In preparing the home for sale, the Peavys also made sacrifices with their decor to appeal to a more general audience. One notable example was the transformation of their vibrant dining room into a neutral space after feedback indicated that its bold colours might not suit prospective buyers. “We painted it a more neutral colour, which took 30 hours, but it was a necessary step,” she commented.
Ultimately, just weeks before their planned move, the Peavys received an offer and swiftly accepted it. Reflecting on this experience, Peavy expressed that amidst the stress, there is excitement about what lies ahead. “We can’t wait for our children to explore the woods, the creek, and the treehouse on our new land. We have so many ideas for updates and family gatherings, and it’s just thrilling,” she said.
Despite the challenges, Peavy noted that the support they received from friends, family, and even strangers online has been overwhelming. “It’s remarkable how moving houses can reveal the kindness of people around you. We have felt a lot of love and positivity during this time,” she remarked.
While the closing date is imminent and the family is in the depths of packing, Peavy acknowledges that their work is far from over. The new property, while full of character – featuring stunning architectural elements like vaulted ceilings and arched windows – requires updates and personalisation. “It hasn’t seen many updates since it was built, but it has so much charm. We look forward to enhancing it room by room,” she said excitedly.
For those navigating the current housing market, Peavy has some advice: “Be open to new opportunities. Life is meant to be lived and embraced. While it’s good to have plans, don’t be afraid to pursue what feels a little daunting.” As they prepare for this significant transition, Peavy expresses gratitude for the comfort they have experienced, while eagerly anticipating the new adventures that await. “It’s exciting to dream, hope, and see those dreams come to fruition,” she concluded.
