The plot centres on Hollis, who faces the grief of her husband’s sudden passing. To overcome her heartbreak, she decides to gather her closest friends from various stages of her life for a weekend retreat at her beach house in Nantucket. Sevigny plays Tatum, Hollis’s childhood best friend, creating a connection filled with shared history and emotional complexities.
Before they found themselves cast in this poignant series, Sevigny and Garner had never crossed paths, despite having worked in the industry for many years. Garner remarked on their long trajectory within Hollywood, suggesting that their careers had almost intertwined on several occasions. “I can think of roles where I was up for and ended up going to you,” Garner explained, highlighting the serendipitous nature of their collaboration.
Their first meeting took place during the initial table read for the series. According to Garner, the experience was nerve-racking. “I’m very suburban emotionally and the opposite of urban cool, and Chloë is the face of urban cool,” she confessed, contrasting her own style with that of Sevigny.
