A tragic incident has unfolded in Missouri, where ten-year-old Jackson S. Georgari was discovered unresponsive in a pond just hours after his family reported him missing. The Kansas City Missouri Police Department (KCPD) indicated that the boy may have sleepwalked out of his home before his body was found.

Jackson, who had recently relocated from San Diego to Missouri, was last seen shortly before midnight on Thursday, wearing a grey T-shirt and matching shorts. His sisters revealed to local media that the young boy had a history of sleepwalking, which they believed led him to venture outside without realising what he was doing.

According to a missing persons alert from KCPD, Jackson stood at 4 feet 8 inches tall and weighed approximately 80 pounds. The alert noted that he did not suffer from any diagnosed medical conditions. The boy’s sister, Semina Richard, recounted a previous sleepwalking incident from their time in San Diego, where Jackson had wandered outside and was fortunately found and returned home safely.
In their statements, Jackson’s sisters explained that they thought he may have followed familiar routes to streams and ponds he recognised from his school bus rides. Tragically, this familiarity with the area did not prevent the fatal outcome. Just after noon the following day, KCPD announced that the boy had been found unresponsive in a pond located near Briarcliff Village on North Mulberry.
KCPD Captain Jake Becchina described the pond as “very large,” and emergency personnel attempted to perform resuscitation efforts upon discovering Jackson. Unfortunately, he was declared deceased at the scene. The police confirmed that the investigation would now transition into a death inquiry, as there were no immediate signs of foul play.
The team from KCPD is currently awaiting assessments from the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of Jackson’s death. Captain Becchina expressed the profound sadness felt within the community, noting the impact of such a loss on everyone involved.
“It hurts in your community when you have a kid that goes out in the middle of the night,” he remarked. Becchina continued to express his condolences, stating, “It’s not an update we ever want to provide, and it’s truly unfortunate.”
The distressing situation has left Jackson’s family grieving the loss of their young son, illustrating the unpredictable nature of sleepwalking and the tragic consequences that can arise from it. The local community is undoubtedly mourning the untimely death of Jackson, a young boy with a bright future ahead.
As the investigation unfolds and more information becomes available, Jackson’s family is being supported by friends and local community members during this undoubtedly challenging time. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and safety, especially when children are involved, and the tragic outcomes that can occur in seemingly ordinary circumstances.
