Avinash Narne, a 30-year-old software engineer, has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of his wife, Raajitha Sabbineni. The tragic incident, which occurred in October 2025, has raised numerous questions surrounding the circumstances of her death.
Narne was arrested on July 1, 2026, and has since pleaded not guilty to the charge. He is currently being held in custody on a bail of $5 million. Court documents revealed that prosecutors plan to substantiate their allegations with a range of evidence collected from the scene and digital communications.

The couple had been married in June 2025, but their relationship reportedly had complexities, as Narne was found to have been in communication with another woman from India even after his marriage. Prosecutors claim that on the day of Sabbineni’s death, Narne staged the crime scene to make it appear as though he had returned home from an errand to find her unresponsive on the bathroom floor.
On 27 October 2025, Narne called emergency services, claiming that his wife was locked inside their bathroom and unresponsive. When first responders arrived, they forced open the door, discovering Sabbineni lying on the floor. Despite attempts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The King County Medical Examiner later conducted an autopsy, confirming that the cause of death was asphyxia due to strangulation, ruling it a homicide.
Investigators soon uncovered a series of suspicious details about the couple’s relationship. After interviewing Narne, they examined electronic lock records which showed that no one had entered the apartment while he was purportedly out running errands. This detail raised doubts about his account of events, particularly since the bathroom door could be locked from the outside, suggesting a possible foul play.

Further scrutiny of Narne’s mobile phone records revealed ongoing contact with a woman he had previously been engaged to. Despite denying any knowledge of extramarital affairs during initial police interviews, Narne’s messages to the woman revealed expressions of love and desire for them to be together. Authorities discovered that Narne had contacted this woman multiple times on the day of Sabbineni’s death, leading investigators to question the nature of his relationship further.
The investigation also highlighted a troubling pattern of behaviour. Following Sabbineni’s death, Narne deleted a message to the woman, stating that he couldn’t recall taking a picture of his wife. However, the exchanges included emoticons and phrases that suggested a knowledge of the situation that raised eyebrows among detectives, including one message from the woman stating, “This happened in your dream.”
As a result of the evidence collected, prosecutors believe that Narne’s motivations for his alleged actions may stem from his ongoing relationship with the other woman. The defence strategy has yet to be made public as Narne’s attorney has not issued any statements at this time.
The case has attracted significant media attention, particularly due to the nature of the allegations and the shocking revelations about Narne’s conduct following the tragedy. Public interest in the case is expected to remain high as it progresses through the court system.
A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for 23 July, where further evidence may be presented. Narne’s next court appearance will help determine the direction of the case, as both the prosecution and defence prepare for a potentially lengthy legal battle ahead.
This incident underscores the tragic outcomes that can arise from domestic tensions, while also raising broader questions about personal relationships and the complexities they can entail. The legal proceedings will scrutinise every aspect of the case, as investigators continue efforts to pursue justice for Raajitha Sabbineni.
