Patrick Dempsey, the acclaimed actor known for his role in *Grey’s Anatomy*, has publicly announced his decision against running for the U.S. Senate seat representing Maine. This announcement coincides with a turbulent political environment due to serious allegations against fellow Democratic candidate, Graham Platner.
In an op-ed published in the *Portland Press Herald* on 8 July 2023, the 60-year-old actor articulated his deep affection for Maine and his concerns about the state’s political direction. Dempsey acknowledged that he had received requests from supporters urging him to consider a candidacy, especially in light of Platner’s recent controversy.

Despite denying the allegations, Platner confirmed his withdrawal from the race in an online statement on 8 July, in which he also mentioned the logging of forms to formally exit the campaign.
