Former NFL star Andrew Whitworth shared his excitement following his attendance at the star-studded wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3. Five days later, the sports personality reflected on the event while preparing for the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Resort in Nevada.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Whitworth expressed his delight at being part of such a significant occasion, stating, “It was great. It was a great night. It was cool to be there and see them, and watch them share their love for one another in front of a lot of people.” He described the wedding as a special event and conveyed the joy of witnessing the couple’s affectionate moments together.

The former player, known for his time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams, admitted to spending much of the evening on the dance floor. According to him, the most memorable aspects of the wedding were seeing Swift and Kelce’s “loose and candid” expressions of love for one another. He praised the authenticity they displayed, saying, “They’re not trying to be anything else, and they’re in love with the actual individual that’s standing across from them.”
Whitworth’s observations about the couple’s genuine chemistry were echoed by fellow guest Ryan Fitzpatrick, who also attended the wedding with his wife, Liza. Fitzpatrick described the event as “unbelievable,” stating that the entire experience felt “top notch.” One remarkable highlight for Fitzpatrick was the appearance of actor Adam Sandler, who officiated the ceremony. He noted how stunning the ceremony was, adding, “That was really cool. The ceremony was beautiful.”
The wedding festivities included hours of dancing, which Fitzpatrick said left him and his wife recovering from “six-plus hours of dancing.” He reflected on how much the evening meant for them, particularly enjoying time spent on the dance floor together. “My favourite moment was just I got to spend the night with my wife just on the dance floor, being around and being in it, so that was pretty magical for us,” he recalled.
As Whitworth prepared for the golf tournament, he noted that more than 80 sports and entertainment stars would be competing for the overall prize purse of $750,000. Interestingly, many guests from the wedding—including Jason Kelce, Rob Riggle, Kyle Juszczyk, Rich Eisen, and Baker Mayfield—will also participate. A tradition among the competitors is to donate any winnings to local and national charities, highlighting the event’s philanthropic spirit.
Whitworth emphasised the competitiveness amongst those taking part, regardless of their respective fields, whether it be sports, television, acting, or music. “For a lot of us, we’ve all been competitive in whatever we did,” he explained. He appreciated the tournament’s ambiance and the sense of community it fostered, stating, “The setting, the people, the host — it makes it all special.”
Commenting on the overall experience at the tournament, Whitworth noted, “American Century does an insane job of putting on this tournament. It’s for a great cause, and it just makes it feel special for everything that’s going on here.” He concluded by celebrating the attendees’ diverse backgrounds as they come together to have fun, compete, and enjoy time with fans.
As the weekend unfolds, Whitworth and his fellow competitors will not only be focused on their golf games but also on the opportunity to contribute to charitable causes, further showcasing the spirit of the event. This combination of competition, camaraderie, and altruism creates a unique atmosphere, promising an enjoyable and meaningful experience for all involved.
