In a recent episode of Netflix’s documentary series “Untold,” former NBA player Lamar Odom stirred controversy with comments about his marriage to Khloé Kardashian, which took place after just 30 days of dating in 2009. The revelations sparked a strong reaction from Kardashian, who felt misrepresented by Odom’s remarks regarding his motivations for marrying her.

The documentary, titled “Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom,” debuted on March 31, 2023. Odom, now aged 46, expressed that the allure of the Kardashian “lifestyle” influenced his decision to wed Kardashian. A close friend of Odom, Anthony “Pumpkin” Booker, also divulged that Odom claimed he was pursuing the marriage to enhance his future, commenting on the family’s extensive connections.

Kardashian, who made an appearance in the documentary, later addressed Odom’s comments on her podcast, “Khloé in Wonder Land.” Her reaction was one of disbelief as she exclaimed, “You’re sitting on camera saying you married me for fame? Like, what?” She expressed her frustration, noting that her participation in the documentary was a personal favour, mentioning that she did not receive any payment for her involvement.
Odom, however, has since refuted the notion that he married Kardashian solely for fame. In a subsequent appearance on “Nothing’s Off the Table with Louis Ruggiero,” he explicitly stated, “That never came out of my mouth,” when discussing the interpretation of his marriage as a pursuit of celebrity status. He suggested that the offending comments might have originated from his children, who featured in the documentary.
During the interview, Odom shared that he had been in a relationship prior to meeting Kardashian with a successful actress, indicating that his decision to marry was not motivated by a desire for publicity. “You loved her,” the host remarked, to which Odom affirmed, “Yeah, I did. But I didn’t need more clout.”
The former couple’s relationship has been tumultuous, with their marriage lasting from 2009 until their separation in 2013, followed by a lengthy legal process that only concluded in 2016. Their separation was marked by personal challenges, notably Odom’s overdose in 2015, an event during which Kardashian provided crucial support.
Following Odom’s comments, Kardashian expressed her disappointment, declaring that she has “never going to do another Lamar thing again.” She described Odom’s behaviour as “gross,” explaining that he seems to treat their past with a flippant disregard. “You’re not accountable for anything,” she lamented, adding that the situation feels like a betrayal after their collaborative effort in the documentary.
In her podcast, she touched on how Odom’s recent press interviews have generated more negative attention, which she finds irritating, especially given her supportive role during his recovery journey. Kardashian remarked on the unpredictability of her previous romantic encounters, reflecting on the trauma she experienced with past relationships and how it affects her current dating life.
Moreover, Kardashian indicated a shift in her approach to relationships, stating, “Would you be skipping into your next relationship, or would you be immersed in watching your stunning, beautiful children grow up and build core, lifelong memories?” This reflection highlighted her intention to prioritise her children over potential romantic interests.
As Odom and Kardashian navigate the aftermath of the documentary and their shared history, it remains evident that their relationship continues to evoke complex emotions and public scrutiny. The incident serves to remind audiences of the deep, often painful narratives that accompany celebrity relationships, with both parties grappling with the impact of their past decisions on their present lives.
