Directed by Oscar-winner Orlando von Einsiedel, ‘The Cycle of Love’ is set to be released in New York City on 28 August, prior to its wide release across the United States. The documentary focuses on Mahanandia, a Delhi-based artist, who, in the 1970s, embarked on an audacious journey from India to Sweden in search of true love.

The film recounts the tale of a 23-year-old Mahanandia, who, driven by a childhood prophecy that his future wife would come from a distant land, took a leap of faith to find Von Schedvin. In the trailer, which debuted on 8 July, Mahanandia reflects on the moment he met her while sketching portraits of tourists, a job he undertook to support himself in a challenging upbringing.

The documentary reveals how Von Schedvin expressed her intention to return to India in August, which prompted Mahanandia to take matters into his own hands. “I left behind everything I knew,” he recounts, detailing the thousands of miles he traversed on a bicycle to reunite with her in Sweden. The film not only features Mahanandia and Von Schedvin recounting their story, but it also stars actors Chirag Benedict Lobo and Mina Dale, who portray the couple in their youth.
Chopra Jonas, in her enthusiasm for the film, shared her thoughts on Instagram following the trailer’s release, stating, “When I first heard the story of the extraordinary journey of @pkmahanandia across continents for love, I was immediately drawn in.” She emphasised the uniqueness of their tale, describing it as one of those rare stories that linger long after being told.
At a time when narratives centred on truth and positivity resonate deeply, Chopra Jonas believes the film offers an opportunity to escape into a world of love and cinema. She remarked, “This film offers an invitation to escape, to connect, and to rediscover the joy of falling in love with cinema… and love itself.”
The couple’s bond has proven resilient, with Mahanandia recently paying tribute to Von Schedvin on her 71st birthday, celebrating over 50 years of their enduring relationship. Their love story stands as a testament to the notion that love can transcend boundaries and defy expectations.
Following its release in the U.S., plans for the film to debut in the UK in September have already been confirmed by Chopra Jonas, further widening its reach.
‘The Cycle of Love’ celebrates the powerful human experiences of love and longing, capturing the essence of a journey that is both poignant and inspiring. The film promises not just to entertain, but to remind audiences of the enduring power of love, irrespective of distance and time. As anticipation builds for its release, there is little doubt that Mahanandia and Von Schedvin’s story will resonate with many, offering a narrative full of hope and devotion.
