Jeff Goldblum and his wife Emilie have recently unveiled the stunning transformation of the guesthouse at their Spanish-style home in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. The couple, who have been married since 2014 and share two sons, Charlie, 10, and River, 9, enlisted the expertise of architect Barbara Bestor to reimagine the space, which required a significant overhaul after decades of use.

Goldblum has owned the 1930s property for over forty years, but he and Emilie felt the guesthouse needed an update to better accommodate their family’s lifestyle. The renovation aimed to create a versatile space that would serve various purposes, including a gym, performance area, play area for the children, home office, and guest accommodations.
The initial spark for the renovation came from the couple’s desire to improve the laundry room, which led to a broader vision for the entire structure. According to Goldblum, this larger project allowed them to create a functional yet whimsical environment that truly represents their personalities.
Barbara Bestor took on the challenge of redesigning the guesthouse to harmonise with the aesthetic of the main residence while introducing elevated ceilings and modernised building systems. Both she and the couple agreed that the interior should exude a sense of vibrancy and relaxation to match Goldblum and Emilie’s playful spirit. Emilie reflected on her husband’s eclectic taste, pointing out their shared fondness for the laid-back, colourful vibes of 1970s California.
The interior spaces are meticulously designed with an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living. The guesthouse includes a striking pink gym featuring expansive sliding glass doors that invite fresh air and create breathtaking views of the Los Angeles skyline. While Emilie frequently utilises this space for filming workouts and dance routines, Jeff expressed his delight with the gym’s colourful decor, asserting that he appreciates all colours and finds joy in their vibrant choice.
In addition to the gym, the guesthouse features a cleverly designed guest room equipped with a Murphy bed adorned with eye-catching bedding that folds into the wall, maximising available space. Guests benefit from an en-suite bathroom, which includes both an indoor shower and an outdoor shower perfectly suited for rinsing off after a swim in the pool. Emilie noted that this outdoor fixture becomes particularly useful during family-hosted pool parties, enhancing guest experience.
During a video tour with Architectural Digest, Goldblum reflected on how he cherishes their new property, expressing gratitude for the luxurious space that has been created. He remarked, “We’re so lucky. This is all too luxurious, but I’ll never not appreciate it.”
The ground floor also hosts a multipurpose main area, intentionally kept uncluttered to foster flexibility. This space not only serves as a gathering spot for family after a day by the pool or a cocktail hour before meals, but it also facilitates spontaneous performances and creative endeavours. Goldblum expressed excitement about the potential for exploration in this newly conceived space, stating, “We’re going to keep discovering how this place serves us. These rooms are so fertile and ripe for experiments and adventures.”
As Goldblum and Emilie continue to evolve their unique Los Angeles home, they have created a joyful reflection of their lives together, filled with playful design and functionality that caters to their family’s needs and interests.
