**Inspiring Journey of Eight-Year-Old Heart Warrior Geno Mueller**

In a heartwarming tale of resilience, eight-year-old Geno Mueller from Avon Lake, Ohio, has shown incredible bravery throughout his young life, having faced daunting medical obstacles from birth. Born with a rare congenital heart condition, Geno was given a mere 10% chance of survival after delivery, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey filled with challenges and triumphs.

Geno’s struggles began before he even entered the world. His mother, Adrienne Mueller, recalls a routine prenatal scan at 20 weeks, which revealed severe complications including complete heart block and hydrops fetalis—a condition that leads to a dangerous build-up of fluid in a fetus’s body. The news left the family reeling, as doctors prepared them for the possibility of losing their child before he was even born.

Despite the grim prognosis, Geno’s birth came with a mix of hope and apprehension. Medical professionals closely monitored Adrienne’s pregnancy until the determination was made at 29 weeks that a caesarean section was necessary to ensure the baby’s health. Following his arrival, Geno spent his first five months of life in a neonatal intensive care unit, where specialists worked tirelessly to stabilise his condition.

At just three months old, Geno underwent surgery to implant a pacemaker, which was essential for regulating his heartbeat. However, this was just the beginning. His condition deteriorated further when he developed heart failure due to a malfunctioning valve between his heart’s upper and lower chambers. Medication helped manage his situation until he was nearly three, when he experienced his first open-heart surgery to correct his mitral valve.

Though the operation was deemed successful, Geno faced a setback less than two weeks later when he suffered his first stroke, resulting in weakness on the left side of his body. This event marked yet another challenge in his fight for a healthier life.

When he turned seven, Geno underwent a second surgery on the same valve. Surgeons initially anticipated that replacing it with a mechanical valve would be necessary; however, they ultimately preserved his original valve—a small triumph amid the ongoing challenges.

Just when it seemed that life was returning to normal for the young boy and his family, they faced yet another crisis. While swimming with his brothers last June, Geno suddenly exhibited signs of distress, struggling to walk and speak. His father, Bo Mueller, recognised the alarming signs when he noticed Geno’s face drooping and his complexion paling. Acting quickly, the family sought medical assistance, and doctors swiftly treated Geno for a stroke.

Thanks to the prompt response of his family, as well as the medical team’s intervention, Geno received the necessary medication followed by a procedure to remove the clot that had caused the stroke. The aftermath involved extensive therapy to help him regain his strength and communication skills, as he experienced right-sided weakness and speech difficulties.

Dr. Kriti Bhayana, Geno’s neurologist, praised the Mueller family’s swift action in addressing his symptoms. “Every moment counts when dealing with a stroke,” she emphasised, noting that around 1.9 million brain cells can be lost each minute during such an event.

Despite the numerous obstacles he has faced, Geno’s spirit remains unbroken. In an interview with the Cleveland Clinic, he reflected on his experiences with optimism, stating, “Even though I’ve been through some tough things, I’ve just kept going. Facing and getting through hard times makes you that much stronger and braver.”
