Maya Hawke has recently taken significant steps to establish her roots, having purchased a new home in upstate New York, merely a stone’s throw away from her mother, renowned actress Uma Thurman. The 27-year-old actress and singer, who is the daughter of Thurman and fellow actor Ethan Hawke, shared her excitement in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

In the interview, Maya expressed her delight over the new home, stating, “I just got myself a home a couple of blocks away from my mum. I’m so excited to finally be able to put some roots down.” This move comes just a few months after her surprise wedding to musician Christian Lee Hutson on Valentine’s Day in New York City.
Currently, Hawke is immersed in a new project titled “The God of the Woods,” a television adaptation of Liz Moore’s acclaimed novel. She explained that the filming locations for the series are in the same vicinity as her new residence, making it particularly meaningful. “It shoots in the town that I grew up in,” she said enthusiastically.

Maya revealed that this unique situation brings great relief, as she is able to work while being at home, alleviating the usual stress actors experience when balancing work commitments with personal lives. “I feel like I have the best summer of my life going on, where I get to experience neither thing at the same time,” she remarked, referencing the anxiety often associated with job security in the entertainment industry.

Hawke’s illustrious lineage includes not just her mother, Uma, but her father, Ethan, who is also a notable actor and has two daughters, Indiana and Clementine, with his wife Ryan Shawhughes. Maya and her brother, Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke, maintain close ties with both parents, creating a supportive family network.
At her winter wedding, which featured a guest list of family and close friends, including some of her co-stars from “Stranger Things,” Maya showcased a stunning, custom-designed wedding dress by Prada paired with an oversized feathery coat. This touching event brought together her famous parents, alongside friends from the entertainment world to celebrate the couple’s joyous union.
As for her current project, “The God of the Woods,” the series is set against the backdrop of the Hudson River Valley and the scenic Adirondack Mountains. Maya portrays Judy Luptack, a pioneering female investigator in a male-dominated field, as she delves into the case of a missing 13-year-old girl from a summer camp.
Kerry Condon joins the cast as the mother of the missing teen, Alice Van Laar. The series intertwines themes of privilege, dark family secrets, and class tensions through the narrative of the Van Laar family, focusing on how past tragedies affect present circumstances.
Producers of “The God of the Woods,” including Sony Pictures Television, have committed to maintaining the integrity of the Adirondack setting, which Moore and her fellow executive producer Liz Hannah believe is vital for telling this compelling story. They expressed enthusiasm for the filming locations, emphasizing their desire to honour the region’s intriguing history and stunning landscapes.
While there has yet to be an official release date announced for the series, viewers can currently enjoy Maya’s Audible Original, “The Summer Oath,” which was recently made available. With her new home, exciting projects, and rich artistic lineage, Maya Hawke seems poised to continue her emerging career in the world of entertainment.
