Daikin Comfort Technologies, Inc. has recently initiated a national recall of over 13,000 air conditioning units and heat pumps amid concerns regarding safety risks associated with the products. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) made the announcement on June 25, indicating that approximately 13,514 Amana Window-Room-Air-Conditioners (WRAC) and through-the-wall (TTW) air conditioning units are impacted.

These recalled models, which include both air conditioners and heat pumps, have been identified as posing a serious risk of fire and burn injuries. The CPSC reports that a significant concern lies in the fact that the heating element within the units may remain active during a ground fault, even after it has been turned off. Although there has been only one incident of melting plastic reported, fortunately, no injuries have been documented to date.

The air conditioning units, primarily designed for climate control in rooms, are commonly found in hotels, apartment complexes, and other commercial spaces. The products are generally white in colour, and many have brand name control covers which can assist in identifying them.

To determine whether a unit is included in the recall, consumers should check for its model number. This information can be found on a white sticker located on the front edge of the base pan. Recalled units will have model numbers that begin with the letters PB, AH, or AE. Some specific models include PBH113J35AA, PBH093J35AA, and several others listed under the WRAC category such as AH123J35AA, AH093J35AA, and AE123J35AA.
The affected air conditioning units were sold at various retailers across the country between April and December 2025, with prices ranging from £850 to £1,500. In light of the recall, consumers are strongly urged to cease use of the affected products immediately and to contact Daikin Comfort Technologies for a full refund.
Consumers can reach Daikin Comfort Technologies at a toll-free number, 855-812-8989, during business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time, Monday to Friday. For added convenience, requests for refunds can also be submitted online through the dedicated recall website at www.amana-ptac.com/amana-ttw-wrac-recall.
As part of the refund process, customers will be required to cut the power cord of their unit and provide photographic evidence of both the cord and the product’s serial number. The serial number can be located beneath the barcode, which is situated below the model number on the unit.
Daikin Comfort Technologies has been contacted for additional insights regarding the recall and any further measures being taken to ensure consumer safety.
Consumers who have purchased these air conditioning units are advised to keep an eye on additional relevant updates from the CPSC and Daikin Comfort Technologies to stay informed about safety measures and recommendations.
As this story develops, individuals are encouraged to remain vigilant in monitoring safety recalls to ensure their appliances do not pose a risk to their households.
