In an imaginative twist on traditional birthday celebrations, Brittinay Nicolette Sentz recently organised a Bid Day-themed party for her daughter’s first birthday. Drawing from her own experiences in Greek Life during her university days, the Ohio resident infused the celebration with elements reminiscent of sorority initiation, demonstrating that the bonds of sisterhood transcend age.

Brittinay, 34, and her husband Michael, 39, both embraced the values of community and sisterhood during their time in college. Brittinay fondly recalls her time as a member of Alpha Chi Omega at the University of Lynchburg, where she was instilled with the belief that “it’s not four years, it’s for life.” This ethos was inspired by her upbringing, shaped by a strong mother and two older sisters, instilling in her the significance of community connections.

As she contemplated the festivities for her daughter Eloise’s milestone birthday, an idea struck while she was dropping her son off at daycare. The concept of a Bid Day celebration — a pivotal event in the sorority and fraternity recruitment process — spontaneously took shape in her mind. She quickly reached out to her sorority sisters for feedback, who encouraged her enthusiasm, recognising her flair for unique themes.
Planning rapidly took off, with Brittinay coordinating decorations and T-shirts alongside local entrepreneurs. She proudly declared that the themed party was a testament to the idea that sisterhood knows no age limits, creating a special sorority for her daughter called Epsilon Lambda Sigma, represented by the initials ELS — an homage to Eloise Lorraine Sentz.
The backyard celebration was a spectacle, featuring a bouncy castle for the children, cotton candy machines, and bubble machines, whilst adults enjoyed beer pong and even a keg for keg stands. Brittinay, speaking candidly, reflected on the challenges she faced in the past year, including struggles with postpartum depression. She expressed how heartwarming it was to see her daughter surrounded by family and friends on such a significant day.
Although Eloise initially napped through the first part of the festivities — a nod to her reputation as a poor napper according to her mother — she eventually made her appearance, bringing joy to the family who travelled from near and far to celebrate this special occasion. Brittinay acknowledged the immense love for her daughter, stating, “Our girl is well-loved, and I know she can feel it.”
Brittinay, known for her sentimental nature, took it upon herself to document the day meticulously. She believes in capturing precious moments, understanding that they can never be reclaimed. However, upon sharing videos of the event online, she experienced an unexpected surge of attention, with the footage going viral beyond her close circle of friends and family.
While the majority of online responses were positive, she did encounter some criticism regarding her decision to participate in keg stands during the evening’s adult festivities, which took place after the children had turned in for the night. With a light-hearted response, Brittinay defended her choices, adding that if the keg stand incident were the worst thing she would face as a parent, she felt confident her children would turn out just fine.
The Sentz family is no stranger to extravagant birthday bashes. Previously, they had hosted a Jersey Shore/Sopranos-themed party for their son Sebastian’s first birthday. Brittinay expressed her enthusiasm for themed celebrations, stating that the more committed they were to the theme, the more enjoyable the event became.
Looking ahead, Brittinay revealed that the couple intends to shift their focus from throwing lavish parties for every birthday to providing meaningful experiences for their children. Reflecting on their plans, she mentioned taking Sebastian to Disney World for his second birthday, with hopes of doing something equally special for Eloise in the future.
Ultimately, Brittinay Nicolette Sentz’s creativity has not only resulted in a memorable birthday celebration but has also sparked conversations surrounding the importance of community, sisterhood, and the significance of family bonds in the early years of life.
