In this week’s edition, 25-year-old actress Lexi Minetree reflects on her remarkable journey as she steps into the iconic role of Elle Woods in the much-anticipated prequel series, “Elle.” The show is set to premiere soon on Prime Video, showcasing a younger version of the beloved character originally portrayed by Reese Witherspoon in the 2001 hit, “Legally Blonde.”

Minetree first caught the attention of Witherspoon through her self-tape audition, which the actress described as “breath-taking.” The young talent revealed that her journey began with a bold choice of costume. After learning about the casting call in September 2024, Minetree decided to create a vibrant self-tape featuring a pink sparkly bikini and a playful nod to Elle’s legendary Harvard admissions video.
“I knew I had to go all out,” Minetree stated. “I filmed it at home and spent a great deal of time editing it. I remember thinking, ‘If they watch it, I hope it’ll stand out.’” It appears this strategy paid off, as Witherspoon personally selected Minetree for the lead role following a rigorous four-month audition process.

Reflecting on that time, Minetree expressed her uncertainty during the auditions. “I was very nervous, but I gave it my all,” she remarked. Her dedication to the role is evident, and she proudly looks back on her efforts to secure one of the most coveted parts in contemporary television.
Hailing from Atlanta, Minetree embraced the performing arts from a young age. Initially viewing acting as just a hobby, she eventually recognised her talent and pursued it as a career path. After enrolling at the University of Southern California, she majored in theatre while also opting for public relations as a “safety net” for her parents’ peace of mind. A particularly transformative experience occurred during a semester spent studying in London, which solidified her commitment to acting.
“The British approach to acting left a lasting impression,” Minetree recalled. “They take their craft incredibly seriously, and I learned the importance of preparation and dedication.” This philosophy came to the forefront during her time filming “Elle,” where she committed to a daily 20-minute warm-up for her voice and body.
Minetree faced the added challenge of portraying an iconic character while still maintaining her individuality. “I made a conscious effort to distinguish myself from Elle Woods,” she explained. “No matter how early I woke up or how busy my schedule was, I always opted for my own style over comfort wear. Those moments I spent as Lexi Minetree were precious, and I wanted to honour my own identity.”
As the premiere of “Elle” approaches, Minetree grapples with the overwhelming reality of her new status. “It’s surreal,” she admits. “Sometimes it feels like a dream, and I wonder when it’ll fully sink in.” One remarkable aspect of her life now includes having Reese Witherspoon in her contacts, a reality she finds both thrilling and humbling. “It’s mind-boggling that I could FaceTime her anytime, although I probably won’t,” she chuckled.
Witherspoon has been an active presence on set, offering support and guidance throughout the production. “She’s been incredible,” Minetree praised. “Checking in on my well-being and making sure I’m managing the demands of this new adventure. I truly think of her as a lifelong mentor.”
As the first season of “Elle” gets ready to debut, with a second season already filmed, Minetree remains excited and slightly bewildered by the path her career has taken. Audiences are eager to see how she brings Elle’s story to life, a character that has resonated with many across generations.
Fans can soon catch Minetree embodying this iconic role, with “Elle” streaming on Prime Video. As she steps into the spotlight, both new and long-time followers of the story eagerly await a fresh perspective on a character that has captured countless hearts.
