In an innovative and unconventional move, Christian musician Brandon Lake resorted to tattooing names on his leg to finance his debut album, “Closer.” The 36-year-old artist shared the extraordinary story during an interview with CBS Mornings, which aired on June 30. Describing his determination, Lake reflected on the challenges he faced as an independent artist and the lengths he was willing to go to pursue his passion for music.

“In desperate times, one must resort to desperate measures,” he commented. Faced with the need to raise funds for his album, he decided to turn to his supporters for help. “I said, ‘If you give me a certain amount of money, I’ll tattoo your name on my leg,'” Lake explained. As a result, he ended up with 23 names etched on his thigh, each representing a financial backer who contributed to making the album a reality.

Lake emphasised his commitment to his craft by declaring, “I was willing to do anything short of sin to get this record done.” His willingness to make such a personal sacrifice resonated with fans and served as an inspiring testament to the lengths artists will go to realise their dreams.
In addition to his tattoo saga, Lake also opened up about the emotional struggles that can accompany success. He admitted to grappling with feelings of panic and dark thoughts after achieving significant milestones in his career. “I’m like, ‘This is not who I am. I’m on the mountaintop right now. My dreams are coming true and it’s just crazy,’” he revealed. For Lake, such feelings often emerged not during moments of failure, but in the wake of his successes, leading him to rely on his faith in God for guidance and strength.
Recently, Lake released a live album titled “King of Hearts – in the Room!” on June 26, which was recorded during his latest tour. He expressed gratitude on social media, stating, “I could try forever to describe the presence of God in the room during these nights. This tour is one of those markers on my life that I’ll tell the stories of for decades.” His heartfelt words highlighted the profound impact of the tour on both him and his audience, thanking God for the lives transformed through his music.
Lake has been actively engaging with his fans, enticing them with a teaser posted on Instagram on June 29. Along with a brief clip of an unreleased song, he hinted at upcoming projects, generating excitement among his followers.
Earlier in April 2025, he had launched his album “King of Hearts”. In a sincere Instagram post detailing his inspiration for the album, Lake noted, “I’m not sure if I knew who this record was for when I started writing it, but as the songs came, I realised it was not for the seemingly put together, but rather those who are honest about their brokenness, but also have a desire to connect with their creator and experience Him in everyday life.”
Defining his spiritual journey, Lake stated, “This creator is King of the universe, King of Nations, King of creation, but none more important than King of hearts.” This sentiment encapsulates the essence of his music, which seeks to resonate with those navigating the complexities of faith and life.
As Lake continues to carve out a name for himself in the Christian music scene, his unique approach to funding his work and his reflections on the spiritual journey offer insight into the mind of a dedicated artist. With an impressive portfolio and a growing fan base, Brandon Lake is a testament to the power of creativity and faith in overcoming challenges.
