Rapper Lil Uzi Vert, who identifies with they/them pronouns, has initiated legal action against the Oro House Recovery Centre, citing a serious breach of confidentiality during their time in rehabilitation. Legal documents, recently acquired by PEOPLE, indicate that the rapper’s therapy sessions were recorded and shared without consent, prompting the lawsuit filed in June 2024.
The allegations against the facility include violations of both federal and state laws. Lil Uzi Vert’s legal team has specifically called out Oro House Recovery Centers, its employee Lynn Tumpa, and her minor nephew, claiming wrongful recording of therapy sessions which were subsequently disseminated. The rapper entered the rehabilitation facility in February 2022 with the aim of achieving sobriety and attended both group and individual therapy sessions during their stay.

According to the legal filing, Tumpa is accused of secretly recording a portion of a therapy session with Lil Uzi Vert and then sharing those recordings with her nephew. These recordings are reported to have circulated on social media platforms such as X in February 2024 and Instagram in April 2024. Although the exact channel of dissemination remains uncertain, Lil Uzi Vert’s attorneys assert that Tumpa was the initial source of the leak.
The claims put forth by the rapper’s legal representatives include breach of contract, negligent hiring, and violations of the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act. The filing further alleges an invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress, alongside claims of negligent emotional distress against both Tumpa and Oro House Recovery.

In response to these claims, the defendants have attempted to compel Lil Uzi Vert to provide a deposition in California, a request denied by the Los Angeles County Court. On June 23, 2024, the court ruled in favour of the rapper, indicating that a non-resident such as Lil Uzi Vert cannot be required to attend a deposition in California. Instead, they may be deposed in New York or via video conference—a request the rapper’s team indicated they were amenable to.
The decision not to impose monetary sanctions against Lil Uzi Vert and their team was also noted, with the court stating that the defendants had not demonstrated sufficient grounds for such penalties. David Moreno, representing Lil Uzi Vert, expressed satisfaction with the court’s rulings, indicating their anticipation for the affirmative resolution of the case in court.
Lil Uzi Vert’s legal action comes against the backdrop of a growing awareness of the importance of mental health privacy, particularly when it comes to the treatment of public figures. The rapper’s experience underlines the need for strict adherence to confidentiality in medical settings, as well as the significant repercussions that can arise when such standards are not upheld.
In seeking justice, Lil Uzi Vert is pursuing compensatory, punitive, and statutory damages, with the amount to be determined during the trial process. As the legal proceedings unfold, the case is likely to draw significant media attention, reflecting broader conversations about privacy, consent, and the responsibilities of healthcare providers.
The next stages of this case will be closely watched as they unfold, with the potential for a trial that could set precedents for confidentiality standards in therapeutic environments, especially concerning the care of high-profile individuals.
