A public health alert has been issued for a chicken product sold at Kroger due to a serious labelling error that poses a risk to consumers with egg allergies. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reported the issue regarding Private Selection Honey Dijon Boneless and Skinless Chicken Breasts on June 25, citing the presence of an undeclared egg allergen.

The products were misbranded and contained eggs, which were not disclosed on the packaging. An employee at one of the retail locations discovered the discrepancy while checking the products and alerted both the FSIS and the manufacturer. The affected chicken packages, weighing 21 ounces, feature a “best if used by” date of June 28, 2026, and were produced on June 2, 2026. Notably, the lot code for these items is 15326A, and they bear the establishment number P-45288B.

Distributing across several states, including Alabama, Alaska, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oregon, and Washington, the chicken products have since been removed from sale. Consequently, the FSIS stated that a recall was unnecessary as the items are no longer available to consumers.
Consumers are strongly advised to either return the affected chicken products to the store or dispose of them safely. In its guidance, the FSIS noted that while they had not received reports of adverse reactions stemming from the consumption of these products, anyone who may have concerns regarding their health should consult a healthcare professional.
Further investigations revealed that an incorrect label, which incorrectly listed ingredients like beef and sesame teriyaki marinade, had been affixed to the back of the chicken packages. The erroneous label also mentioned allergens that were not present in the chicken product itself, enhancing the risk to individuals with specific dietary restrictions.
For those still in possession of this chicken product, the FSIS implored consumers to act quickly, stressing that the potential for harmful reactions could arise from accidental consumption. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the agency emphasised.
For further inquiries, consumers can reach out directly to FW Farms LLC, the manufacturer, at their customer service email. Alternatively, the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline is available for broader food safety questions.
This public health alert comes in the wake of another recent alert from the FSIS, which raised concerns about certain headcheese products linked to potential Listeria contamination. This earlier issue highlighted the FSIS’s commitment to monitoring food safety and ensuring consumer protection regarding meat products.
Consumers are reminded to remain vigilant and report any food safety issues experienced with meat, poultry, and egg products to the FSIS through their consumer complaint form.
The FSIS continues to uphold regulations that protect public health while encouraging consumers to stay informed about the products they purchase. As always, awareness and proactive communication between manufacturers and the FSIS are pivotal in preventing food-related illnesses and ensuring public safety.
