A father of two from Brisbane, Australia, has spoken out following a near-fatal motorcycle accident, during which he was trapped beneath a car before being rescued by a group of heroic bystanders. Tyler Wiebe’s life was saved by the quick actions of several good Samaritans who lifted the vehicle off him after he was pinned down in early June.

Reflecting on the shocking event during an interview with the television show A Current Affair, Wiebe described the terrifying moment before the collision. He was commuting to work when he witnessed a car driving in the wrong direction. “I saw another car coming through traffic … like a fish trying to swim upstream, and it hit the car in front of me,” he recalled. This caused him to lose control of his motorcycle and fall beneath a passing vehicle.
The sound of the crash drew the attention of employees at a nearby automotive shop, Auto Request Kedron. Mick, one of the employees, was in the office when he heard the bang and quickly rushed outside. “I realised there was someone trapped under the car,” he said. Fellow employee Rob also recognised the gravity of the situation, while another staff member, Corbin, later recounted seeing only Wiebe’s legs protruding from beneath the car.
Despite their immediate attempts to lift the heavy vehicle, the initial rescue efforts proved ineffective. “We tried to lift it off. We couldn’t, and then on the second attempt, we had a couple of other good Samaritans come and help us,” Brian, another employee, explained. Times were critical as Wiebe lay beneath the car, fighting for breath and feeling the pressure of the vehicle take a toll on his body. “I was bleeding from my eyes, mouth, and nose,” he recounted, expressing the profound impact of the car’s weight.
In a determined effort, the assembled group of men managed to lift the approximately 3,300-pound vehicle high enough to free Wiebe from beneath it. “We just knew we had to get the car off,” Rob stated, as they summoned all their strength. Wiebe noted that he believed he only had seconds to spare before slipping into unconsciousness. “Honestly, I don’t think I had more than two more seconds,” he said, reflecting on how close he came to losing his life.
Following the rescue, Wiebe was taken to the hospital, where he faced arduous medical challenges, including multiple broken ribs, a sternum fracture, and a collapsed lung. “I couldn’t get a deep breath in,” he recalled, sharing how he struggled to stay conscious in the ambulance as medical staff urged him to remain awake. He remembered feeling a deep certainty that he might not survive the ordeal, especially as he lay on the operating table.
The group of Auto Request Kedron employees later received an emotional thank-you from Wiebe during a television interview from his hospital bed. “I get more time with my daughters, I get more time with my family, and a second lease on life, so just thank you, thank you,” he expressed with heartfelt gratitude.
In a recent reunion, Wiebe met with the group of rescuers who lifted the car and presented them with matching “Certified Legend” T-shirts, which featured a graphic of a figure lifting a vehicle. “You guys are legends, but now you’re certified legends,” he declared, prompting cheers from the group.
Despite the harrowing experience, Wiebe has decided not to return to motorcycling. “Never again, unfortunately,” he stated, underscoring the lasting impact of the accident on his life. He also expressed his belief that the driver responsible for the crash may have fallen ill at the wheel.
At present, the Queensland Police have not publicly clarified the precise circumstances surrounding the accident. However, Wiebe’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the life-saving potential of quick-thinking individuals in moments of crisis.
