Authorities in Thailand have arrested an Australian man, Simon Carman, in connection with the tragic death of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla. The teenager was reported missing on the evening of June 26, shortly before her remains were discovered in a suitcase. Carman, 45, was apprehended at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport just hours later, as he attempted to board a flight back to Australia.

Police allege that Carman was present with Donhomla in a hotel room during her final moments. According to reports from local news outlet ABC Australia, security footage appears to show the two together shortly before the incident. Investigators believe that Carman picked up Donhomla from a local vice area in Pattaya in the early hours of that Thursday morning.
The circumstances surrounding Donhomla’s death are disturbing. Her remains were located around 11 p.m. on June 26, discarded along a railway line situated a mere ten minutes from the hotel where Carman was staying. Law enforcement officials have stated that the body was found naked, hidden inside a black suitcase, which Carman was allegedly seen carrying earlier that day.
In addition to the hotel surveillance footage, investigators reportedly have video evidence showing Carman riding a motorcycle with the suitcase near the railway tracks where Donhomla’s body was found. Authorities noted that he vanished from the camera’s view for just under ten minutes, before returning to the hotel. This has intensified suspicions surrounding his involvement.
Police Colonel Anek Sarathongyu provided a harrowing account of the girl’s condition when her remains were discovered. He noted that her face exhibited severe signs of trauma, including swelling and bruising, as well as visible bleeding from her mouth and nose. Such injuries suggest a violent end to her short life.
According to statements from Sarathongyu, Carman has scratches on his body that align with those expected from a physical struggle, although he maintains his innocence regarding Donhomla’s murder. Footage of his arrest shows several small marks on his arm and neck. When questioned about these scratches, Carman remarked, “I think it’s a spider; they always get in here,” attempting to cast doubt on their origin.
Carman faces multiple charges, including murder and taking a minor for indecent purposes. As the lead investigator, Lieutenant Colonel Kanoknun Sooksri confirmed that Carman’s claims about Donhomla disappearing from their hotel room while he was asleep are being considered in the ongoing investigation. However, police are unconvinced and continue to pursue the case against him.
Currently, Simon Carman is detained at Pattaya Prison while authorities conduct their inquiries. In light of this tragic case, the Pattaya City Police and Pattaya Tourist Police have yet to comment publicly on the matter.
As the investigation continues, both local and international media are closely monitoring circumstances surrounding the case, reflecting the heightened concerns over safety for young individuals in tourist areas. Further developments are anticipated as police work to gather more evidence and possibly establish a clearer timeline of events leading up to Donhomla’s death.
