Lionel Richie, the celebrated singer-songwriter, has announced the postponement of two upcoming performances as part of his Sing A Song All Night Long Tour alongside Earth, Wind & Fire. Initially scheduled to take place in Chicago on Friday, June 26, and Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, June 27, these concerts will be delayed following Richie’s abrupt decision to cut his first show short due to health concerns.

The news surfaced through Live Nation Chicago’s official Instagram account, where they confirmed that Richie had experienced dizziness while on stage during his performance at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 24. As a result, he has been advised by medical professionals to rest and focus on his recovery before returning to the stage. Despite the setbacks, Richie is still expected to perform in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, June 30.
Richie, who is now 77 years old, expressed his disappointment over the postponements, stating that he is “heartbroken” and looking forward to connecting once again with his fans. Live Nation extended an apology to those who had purchased tickets for the affected shows and assured that new dates will be communicated shortly.
The incident that led to the postponements occurred while Richie was performing his hit “Dancing on the Ceiling.” Reports indicate that he felt suddenly dizzy and chose to take a seat on a platform. In a light-hearted manner, he remarked to the audience that sitting down while performing was new for him, indicating a positive spirit despite the discomfort. He then relocated to a piano to perform “Three Times a Lady.”
Following this brief set, an impromptu intermission was announced. The audience remained attentive, but after around 40 minutes, his band members exited the stage, and recorded music began to play. Eventually, saxophonist Dino Soldo provided an explanation to the crowd, informing them of Richie’s inability to continue due to health issues, particularly dehydration, as suggested by Earth, Wind & Fire’s drummer, John Paris.
As a precaution, medical personnel attended to Richie backstage and transported him to a hospital for further evaluation. This intervention highlights the significant concern surrounding his well-being, especially given the rigours that come with touring and performing.
Earlier that same day, Richie had engaged with fans by posting a series of promotional photos on Instagram, declaring the excitement of “Opening night” and the start of what is set to be a 26-date tour. This particular outing marks a continuation of the successful run he and Earth, Wind & Fire commenced in 2023-2024 across the United States and Canada.
Beyond the immediate rescheduling in Chicago and Columbus, Richie’s tour will see him performing in various locations, including cities such as Toronto, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, with his tour concluding in Austin on August 14. Following this leg, he has planned performances in Malta and the UK throughout August, and a finale show in St. Louis will take place before he wraps up 2026 in São Paulo, Brazil.
