A baby alligator was safely rescued from a construction site in Fulshear, Texas, where it had wandered onto a work zone along the Westpark Tollway. The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 24, 2023, and has since captured the interest of local residents and social media users alike.

According to the Fulshear Police Department, the small alligator seemed to have taken a wrong turn, leading it to become stranded amidst the construction activities. Thankfully, the work crew present on-site exhibited commendable attentiveness. They kept a watchful eye on the confused reptile, affectionately dubbed an “investi-GATOR” by the police, until help could arrive.
Lieutenant Henry of the Fulshear Police facilitated the safe capture of the baby alligator. In a post shared on the department’s social media, they detailed how he managed to take custody of the young creature without any incident. Following this, the officer transported the alligator to a nearby lake, ensuring it was returned to its natural habitat.
Photographs shared by the police department illustrated the engaging nature of the rescue. Lt. Henry was seen posing alongside the construction workers, holding the tiny alligator, which added a touch of humour to the unusual circumstance. The images also showcased the alligator swimming freely in the lake after being released.
In light of this incident, Fulshear Police had previously reminded residents to remain vigilant about potentially encountering alligators during the spring and summer months. On April 11, they issued a cautionary note highlighting that as temperatures rise, alligators become significantly more active, especially around local lakes and waterways.
The authorities urged residents to stay alert when near water bodies and emphasised the importance of not feeding the alligators. Feeding these reptiles can cause them to lose their natural fear of people, leading to aggressive behaviours that can pose serious risks to both humans and pets. Notably, it is unlawful to feed alligators in the State of Texas.
In addition to these reminders, the police advised locals to supervise children and smaller pets, discouraging them from wading through tall grass or brush areas adjacent to ponds and lakes where alligators might be present.
