**Collin Gosselin Celebrates Book Launch Amid Reflections on Turbulent Childhood**
Collin Gosselin, the son of former reality television stars Jon and Kate Gosselin, has shared a glimpse into a celebratory event held in New York City to mark the launch of his upcoming memoir, *In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood*. The 22-year-old took to Instagram to showcase a compilation video from the gathering that took place recently.

In the footage, Collin is seen sporting a casual black sweater, grey trousers, and footwear, with his long wavy hair and a trimmed beard giving him a distinctly mature appearance. The event was hosted at Farzi New York, an Indian restaurant in Manhattan, where he was joined by chef Gaurav Chawla. In his post, Collin expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am so thankful for all the love and overwhelming support from everyone. I am so grateful to celebrate this book surrounded by friends.”

*In the Shadow of Eight* is set to be released on 13 October 2026, and marks a life-changing moment for Collin as he revisits some of the more challenging aspects of his upbringing. Announcing the memoir earlier this month, he shared on Instagram, “For a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story.” He reflected on his life being broadcast on TV, where millions witnessed his family’s journey but acknowledged that much of his reality remained hidden from public view.
The book’s cover features a childhood photograph of Collin with his mother during the peak of the popular show, *Jon & Kate Plus 8*, which also included his seven siblings: twins Mady and Cara, now 25, and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Leah, and Joel. In his narrative, Collin aims to present the truth about his experiences, countering the assumptions people might have formed through their television screens.
He described the writing process as one that required him to confront some of his most painful memories, stating, “Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life, but it also gave me something I’ve been searching for for a long time: my voice. This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived.”
Collin has emphasised that his memoir is not merely for entertainment but serves a deeper purpose. He outlined his intention to raise awareness around critical issues such as abuse, injustice, and the exploitation of children. He articulated a strong message, stating, “It is a story to instil responsibility in everyone to advocate and speak up against abuse, injustice, and the exploitation of children. I not only poured my heart into this book for my younger self, but for ALL who have faced unfair and outright heinous acts as children. I am your voice. I stand with you.”
The announcement of his book follows years of public discussion about his tumultuous childhood. After Jon and Kate divorced in 2009, Kate was granted custody of their eight children. Collin’s experiences took a darker turn in 2016 when he was placed in a behavioural health institution, which his mother described as necessary due to his “unpredictable and violent behaviour.”
In a significant shift, Collin moved in with his father, Jon, in 2018, after his father regained custody. He completed his high school education in 2023 alongside his sister, Hannah. However, the complexities of family dynamics continue to weigh heavily on Collin. In a TikTok live session in August 2025, he disclosed the painful reality of his estranged relationships with his siblings, saying, “Unfortunately, I don’t talk to my siblings, and I very much wish that we did and that they knew who I actually was because we don’t know each other at all.”
As he embarks on this new chapter with the release of his memoir, Collin Gosselin’s journey appears to be one of resilience and self-discovery. With insights into his struggles and advocacy for those who have faced adversity, his story reflects a profound commitment to shedding light on the darker aspects of childhood, while also striving to reclaim his narrative.
