The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled its latest group of invitees, bringing together 529 new members into its ranks for the 2026 awards season. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Lynette Howell Taylor praised the new recruits, describing them as an “exceptionally talented class” that has made significant contributions to the global film landscape. This year’s selection encompasses a broad spectrum of creatives from across the film industry, showcasing actors, directors, cinematographers, and executives alike.
Perhaps most notably, Teyana Taylor, 35, and Jacob Elordi, 28, have made headlines for their new memberships as they do not require sponsors for their invitations. This privilege stems from their recent nominations at the 98th Academy Awards in March; under Academy rules, individuals nominated for their work in a specific year are automatically considered for membership.
Alongside Taylor and Elordi, the new members include high-profile names such as Jon Bernthal, Josh Gad, Mia Goth, Anthony Ramos, and Simu Liu. Despite not having secured Oscar nominations thus far, these individuals have left an indelible mark on the realm of cinema, earning them a place in the Academy’s voting body.
Membership to the Academy not only entails the responsibility of voting on the illustrious Academy Awards but also empowers members with numerous benefits. Since 2019, new members have been afforded access to a private screening platform, allowing them to view all films nominated for awards in the comfort of their own homes.
