On social media, Bullock recounted her ordeal, stating that she was in New York City not only for her fashion show promoting disability inclusion but also to participate in the United Nations’ 19th Conference of State Parties, aimed at advocating for the rights of disabled individuals. Bullock claims that she was prepared for her flight back to London, having booked her ticket nearly two months prior and accustomed to travelling independently as a wheelchair user.

However, Bullock’s plans took a shocking turn when airline staff allegedly informed her that she could not be allowed to board alone. According to her account, the response from British Airways staff indicated their concern about her ability to manage trips to the toilet during the flight and their capacity to evacuate her in an emergency scenario should they arise.

“Let that sink in,” Bullock urged in her post. “I was not denied boarding due to a ticket issue, a safety violation, or missing documentation. I was denied because I am disabled and travelling independently.” Her experience raises significant questions about the treatment of disabled passengers within the aviation industry.
