Jaden Ford, a former micropreemie, marked this significant milestone at CommonSpirit St. Francis Hospital in Colorado, where he spent the first months of his life fighting against overwhelming challenges.

The story of Jaden’s arrival into the world began in 2010 when his mother, Lisa Ford, faced serious pregnancy complications. At just 16 weeks, her water unexpectedly broke, leading to an alarming series of events. Nearly two months later, Lisa underwent an emergency C-section after developing sepsis, which left Jaden weighing a mere pound at birth. The odds were decidedly stacked against him, and his chances of survival appeared bleak.
Reflecting on those critical moments, Lisa recalled, “He crashed three times, and we didn’t think he was going to make it.” One particular neonatologist, Dr. Marya Prado, played a pivotal role during this tumultuous period. When Jaden had flatlined, Dr. Prado placed him in Lisa’s arms, a moment captured in photographs, showing his fragile state as he appeared ash gray. Miraculously, Jaden’s heart began to beat again after that harrowing moment.
Following his dramatic arrival, Lisa and Jaden faced a lengthy six-month journey in the NICU, where the staff provided remarkable care. Today, he has recently earned the esteemed Eagle Scout rank with the Boy Scouts, showcasing an impressive spirit and determination.
Although Lisa and Jaden have since moved to Texas, they recognised the importance of returning to Colorado Springs for this momentous occasion. The reunion with the NICU staff facilitated a heartfelt celebration of Jaden’s life and achievements thus far, allowing the family to express their gratitude for the care and dedication they received.
