**GOPO Toys Pull String Teething Toy Recalled Due to Choking Hazard**

In a recent safety announcement, over 70,000 pull-string teething toys produced by GOPO Toys have been recalled due to significant safety concerns. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) revealed on 18 June that the toys pose a serious risk of choking, following reports of incidents where the silicone strings became lodged in children’s throats.
The CPSC’s announcement emphasises the severity of the situation, indicating that the silicone strings involved are excessively long and small, exceeding the safe standards for such products. This design flaw potentially allows the strings to extend far enough to reach the back of a young child’s throat, leading to respiratory distress and an elevated risk of choking.
As of the date of the recall, officials reported three separate occurrences where children experienced choking or breathing difficulties due to the teething toy’s strings. This alarming evidence highlights the immediate need for consumers to act quickly to safeguard their children.
The teething toys in question feature a distinctive off-white disc shape with a grey ball centre, adorned with six colourful silicone tentacle-like strings. The product also incorporates seven soft push buttons. These toys were sold online through Amazon and were available from August 2023 until March 2026, retailing at prices between £8 and £12. The packaging is marked with the brand name and includes batch numbers ranging from 250905 to 230610, located on the back.
In response to the recall, the CPSC urges consumers who own this product to refrain from using it immediately and to keep it away from children. A full refund process has been established by GOPO Toys, requiring customers to destroy the toy by cutting off all silicone strings. After doing so, owners should mark the toy as “destroyed” and provide photographic evidence before disposal by sending it to recalls@gopotoys.com.
This latest recall is not an isolated incident within the teething toy market. Earlier in the year, another product— the Yetonamr Pull String Teething Toy—was similarly recalled after it was found to have strings that could become lodged in children’s throats. That particular recall involved approximately 6,800 units and was triggered by a staggering 32 choking incidents reported to the CPSC.
Parents and guardians are reminded to consistently monitor product safety recalls, especially when it comes to toys and items used by infants and toddlers. The potential hazards associated with toys designed for young children necessitate diligence in ensuring that only compliant products are in use.
GOPO Toys has stated its commitment to consumer safety and will work closely with the CPSC to address the situation.
