Sam Worthington recently shared insights about his family life and upcoming projects during an exclusive interview at the premiere of his new Netflix series, “I Will Find You”, held in New York City on 17 June 2026. The 49-year-old actor, best known for his roles in iconic films, revealed that he doesn’t anticipate his three sons will be particularly impressed by his acting career.

In his conversation with *PEOPLE*, Worthington explained his perspective on how his children perceive his work. “I’m not going to ask them to,” he stated regarding whether he expects his sons to watch his films. He added, “Kids don’t feed your ego,” reflecting an understanding that his role as a father takes precedence over his celebrity status.
The actor’s sons, Rocket, Racer, and River, born in 2015, 2016, and 2020, respectively, are quite young and still view him primarily as simply ‘Dad’. During a previous appearance on *The Jennifer Hudson Show* in 2022, Worthington mentioned, “At the moment, they think my job is Dad, and that’s all that matters.”
Interestingly, while his children may not engage much with his work, Worthington revealed that his wife, Lara Worthington, had a late-night binge-watching session with one of their sons. They stayed up until 4 a.m. watching all the initial episodes of “I Will Find You.” Worthington recounted, “We got an early screening, so she and my son watched it until four in the morning. They binged them all.”
He further elaborated on their viewing experience, stating, “After each episode, they were like, ‘All right, we figured it out.’ Then the next one, ‘All right, we were wrong, we figured it out.’” This back-and-forth engagement indicates that the series presents challenging plot twists, making it a stimulating experience for viewers.
In “I Will Find You”, Worthington takes on the character of David Burroughs, a man jailed for the murder of his son, who learns that his child might still be alive. This revelation prompts him to escape from prison to uncover the truth. The series also features actors Britt Lower and Milo Ventimiglia. Worthington noted that Lara was instrumental in his decision to take on this role, as she is a fan of Harlan Coben, the author of the source material and an executive producer of the show.
“My wife liked Harlan’s series on Netflix. When I said he wanted to chat on the phone, she said, ‘Take the call,’” Worthington recalled, highlighting how family enthusiasm can influence professional decisions.
During the event, Worthington also touched on the long-awaited next installment of the “Avatar” franchise. He assured fans that while the release may be some time away, the wait is worthwhile. “I know [director James Cameron’s] going to keep tinkering away at those scripts,” he stated, indicating the meticulousness of the creative process.
“I read them a while back, and I’m sure he’s just going to keep doing them because he learns from the other films,” Worthington explained. He emphasised Cameron’s commitment to listening to fans’ feedback and continuously improving the product, asserting, “That’s why they take time — because they have so much love in them.”
