A fisherman has been located alive after going missing for a week in the northern Cook Islands, roughly 2,100 miles north of New Zealand. The man was discovered on Friday, June 19, in a 13-foot aluminium rowboat, following a large-scale search that began when he failed to return from a fishing trip.

The individual, whose identity has not been officially confirmed, was reported missing on June 11 after sailing from Pukapuka Island for what was intended to be a day of fishing. According to the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF), the fisherman was found by a crew of the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s (RNZAF) P-8A Poseidon aircraft on the morning of Friday, June 19.
