During a press briefing, Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green revealed that the body was recovered around 2:48 p.m. after investigators followed up on a tip that directed them to an area at the junction of North Lake Road and Old Cherokee Road. This location is not far from the gym where Moore was seen walking away on the evening of June 11.

According to Chief Green, authorities are awaiting confirmation from the coroner to officially identify the body. He stated to the media, “The clothing worn by the deceased aligns with that of our missing person.” The police department has acknowledged the critical role of media partnerships in disseminating information related to Moore’s case, which resulted in numerous tips and leads from the public.
Elena Moore was reported missing on June 12, a day after her last known sighting at the gym, where she checked in at approximately 6:40 p.m. Reports indicate that she was last seen walking towards a wooded area behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store. Inspector Missy Silcox of the Lexington Police Department remarked on the case, asserting that it would be “very out of character” for Moore to vanish without a trace.
Moore worked as a personal trainer at Wolf’s Fitness Center, located a few miles away from where she was last observed. Her sudden disappearance has raised concerns among family and friends, who have expressed disbelief regarding her absence.
The investigation into her death is now being led by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). Chief Green highlighted the collaboration between various agencies aiding the investigation, thanking the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Services, and other local authorities for their support throughout the process.
As the community comes to grips with this unsettling development, local police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Moore’s disappearance and subsequent discovery. Meanwhile, the public is urged to stay vigilant and contribute any relevant information that may assist the ongoing inquiry.
Efforts to formally identify the body and uncover the cause of death continue. The Lexington Police Department is hopeful that further investigations will shed light on this tragic case, bringing closure to the loved ones of Elena Katherine Moore.
