In an unexpected twist, Lando sought refuge at the home of his long-time friend and former co-star Jane Seymour, an arrangement that brought both comfort and unexpected joy amid the chaos.
In a candid interview with *People*, Lando, now 64, reflected on his seven-week stay at Seymour’s residence following the loss of his home to the raging fires earlier this year. The 75-year-old actress was quick to extend her support, providing a sanctuary for Lando and his family during a time of immense uncertainty and distress. “Jane took us in, so we spent a lot of time together,” Lando shared, revealing how they bonded deeply during their time as a makeshift family.
Their reunion comes as the two prepare to share the screen again in the fifth season of Acorn TV’s popular series *Harry Wild*, in which Seymour stars as a retired professor turned amateur detective. In the series, Lando plays the role of Pierce Kennedy, a charming pathologist, which has rekindled excitement amongst fans who fondly remember their time on *Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman*.
According to Lando, the experience of living with Seymour during such a crisis forged a strengthened connection between the two. “There was no other way around it; we were surrounded by disaster,” he said, recalling the warmth that emerged from their shared experiences. During their time together, Lando’s family, including seven members and several pets, found themselves at Seymour’s home, illustrating the joys and challenges of their newfound living arrangement.
The actor elaborated on the unique situation, reflecting on the uncertainty that enveloped them during the fires. “It was like a heightened sense of awareness because there was so much bad going on,” he noted, describing the scene that unfolded near his home, where flames raged for weeks. “My neighbourhood burned for two to three weeks. It was terrifying.”
Despite the destruction, Lando found moments of warmth and humour amidst the bleak circumstances. He recounted how they improvised cooking meals after arriving at Seymour’s home with limited supplies and no gas. “I took a propane tank from a barbecue and hooked it up to a little stove,” he recounted fondly, describing how they relied on fresh eggs from Seymour’s chickens while living off the grid during those weeks.
Seymour echoed Lando’s thoughts, calling the event a significant moment in their long-standing friendship, which dates back over three decades. “Of course, we’ve never lived together ever. So, this was the closest to living together,” she remarked, highlighting the unusual and intimate situation that unfolded as they weathered the storm together.
Interestingly, the living arrangement evolved from their mutual concern for one another as the fires approached. In a twist of fate, it was originally Lando who reached out to Seymour to offer shelter should the flames threaten her home. “He called me up, and he said, ‘Look, you guys, if you need to come to us, we’re here,'” Seymour recounted. However, it was soon after that Lando found himself in need of refuge after his own home was lost to the flames.
Seymour recalled her concern when Lando initially refused to leave his home, a decision that could have jeopardised his safety. “You almost lost your life because you refused to stop fighting the fire,” she gently reminded him, showcasing the depth of their friendship and care for one another.
Even after relocating to Seymour’s property, the anxiety of the situation lingered for Lando. He found himself unable to sleep, constantly preparing for the possibility of evacuation. “I’d be awake at 3:00 in the morning, worried that I had lost everything,” he admitted, a testament to the emotional toll of the natural disaster.
Fortunately, the second evacuation never came, and the two actors have since settled back into a rhythm as work partners, which Lando describes as an extension of their friendship. “We’re kind of like an old married couple,” he said affectionately, further illustrating the depth and endurance of their bond.
