Savanna Dastrup, a talented dancer hailing from Orem, Utah, recently made waves as she pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. Competing with 14 other rookie candidates, Dastrup participated in the highly anticipated training camp for the 2025-26 squad, a journey highlighted in the reality series “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.” This season saw unprecedented competition, with a record number of returning veterans, leaving only six coveted positions available to new recruits.

The Netflix show’s third season, which premiered on June 16, followed Dastrup and her fellow hopefuls through an intense selection process that demanded not only exceptional talent but also a strong presence on stage. With the notable challenge of only being allowed to cut eight candidates from the final round, the stakes were extraordinarily high. DCC director Kelli Finglass and choreographer Judy Trammell were tasked with making the heart-wrenching decisions.

Despite a commendable performance during training camp, Dastrup found herself among those eliminated as the camp drew to a close. The emotional moment marked a significant setback for her, as she had dedicated years to preparing for this opportunity, motivated by a dream nurtured from childhood. Reflecting on the experience, she expressed both disappointment and gratitude through her social media platforms, showcasing her resilience and determination to try again.

Born into a supportive family that included her parents and younger brother, Dastrup began dancing at a young age. Inspired by an episode of the CMT reality show “Making the Team,” she became determined to join the ranks of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Opting for Texas Christian University (TCU) so she could attend DCC prep classes, Dastrup spent four years with the TCU Showgirls, passionately cultivating her skills. The culmination of her efforts came when she was invited to the final round of auditions after graduating in May 2025.
In a series of tense evaluations, Dastrup initially impressed Finglass and Trammell with her vibrant performance style. However, concerns about her height—standing at just 5 feet 3 inches—raised doubts about her visibility in large stadium settings. Ultimately, these considerations influenced the decision-making process at training camp, resulting in Dastrup being the third dancer cut from the final list.
Following the emotional news, Finglass reassured Dastrup about her potential and encouraged her not to give up on her aspirations. “You might just chalk this up to timing and experience,” she noted, urging her to return the following year with renewed confidence. Dastrup took these words to heart and vowed to return for another audition, an assertion she later reiterated via her social media channels.
Following her departure from the DCC training camp, Dastrup sought new adventures in life. She relocated to Paris to enrol in a fashion school, an unexpected but exciting chapter for the aspiring performer. Sharing her journey through TikTok, Dastrup revealed her enthusiasm for studying fashion in the French capital, describing it as a dream come true. Her time abroad allowed her to explore various cities across Europe, including Madrid, Belgium, and the French Alps, further enriching her experiences.
As she settled into her new role as a fashion student, Dastrup continued her pursuits of dance, working as an instructor at The Young Company in The Colony, Texas. Meanwhile, her aspirations to return to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders remained alive. In June 2026, she successfully navigated the auditions once again, reaching the finals where she performed a solo rendition of “Brick House” by The Commodores, a piece she felt resonated with her vibrant personality.
In a post on Instagram, Dastrup expressed her overwhelming gratitude and excitement at being invited back to DCC training camp for the 2026 season. “Still on cloud 9!! I’m so grateful for this opportunity!” she shared, clearly elated about her journey and the chance to continue pursuing her dream.
As of now, Savanna Dastrup stands on the cusp of realising her ambition, embracing every moment of her dance journey with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and beyond. Her story serves as a testament to perseverance, passion, and the relentless pursuit of one’s dreams, inspiring many to chase their aspirations regardless of the obstacles faced.
