Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about the emotional journey she experienced as she bid farewell to her iconic character, Eleven, in Netflix’s acclaimed series *Stranger Things*. Speaking during an appearance on Kylie Kelce’s *Not Gonna Lie* podcast earlier this month, Brown explained the profound impact the show’s conclusion had on her identity, marking the end of nearly a decade-long chapter in her life.

At just 22 years old, the actress revealed that she spent the early part of this year mourning the role she had perfectly embodied since she was merely 12. As the series drew to a close on December 31, 2025, Brown found herself grappling with a “lull” in her sense of self. This tough transition was heightened by her early knowledge of her character’s fate, which had been revealed to her prior to the other cast members.

During the interview, Brown noted that the month of January was particularly challenging for her, recalling how she cried for almost the entirety of the month. “I had a bit of a lull in who I was,” she reflected on this difficult period. The actress explained that knowing Eleven’s journey would come to an end made the experience particularly poignant, with the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, allowing viewers to interpret the character’s conclusion in their own way.
As a means of expressing her grief and honouring the character she cherished, Brown notably chose to wear black throughout the promotional tour leading up to the series finale. One standout outfit was a dramatic feathered black gown from Rodarte, which she donned during the show’s Los Angeles premiere. Describing the ensemble, she stated it symbolised not only the sombre themes present in the final season but also the closure of an era she had deeply connected with.
The emotional challenge did not rest solely on her shoulders. Brown shared that the shared grief among her co-stars played a significant role in her own feelings. “Feeling everyone else’s grief… it was too much,” she explained. She felt compelled to reach out to her castmates, asking them if they would continue to be a part of her life beyond the series.
Despite previously practising a mental defence mechanism to prepare for the end, Brown found herself overwhelmed by emotions. During an earlier interview on *Today*, she admitted that the reality of the end hit her hard, recalling her last day on set with a sense of hyper-awareness. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is my last day. This is the last coffee I’m going to drink, the last mark I’m going to stand on,” she reflected, highlighting the weight of these ‘last moments’.
As she turns the page towards new projects, Brown is set to embark on her next role in the third film of the *Enola Holmes* series. Beyond her professional achievements, she is embracing the joys of motherhood. Recently, Brown shared heartwarming moments from a family trip to Universal Studios Orlando with her husband, Jake Bongiovi, and their adopted daughter. The actress took to social media, posting a series of delightful photos from the outing with the caption, “My family ✨,” as her husband affectionately responded in the comments.
As Brown continues to navigate her evolving career and personal milestones, it’s clear the experiences she gathered during her time on *Stranger Things* will remain a significant part of her life. The actress’s reflections on her journey signify not merely an end but the commencement of a new chapter, as she balances her roles as both a celebrated actress and a devoted mother.
