Initially recalled on 6 May, the product has now fallen under a Class I recall as classified by the FDA. This designation is used when there is reasonable probability that exposure to a contaminated product could lead to severe health consequences or even death. The current recall affects more than 900 cases of the Alfredo sauce, emphasising the seriousness of the situation.

The implicated sauce, manufactured in Tennessee, is believed to contain dry milk powder sourced from a supplier whose ingredients were flagged due to potential Salmonella contamination. The FDA’s advisory suggests that consumers should be vigilant regarding their consumption of the product.

The recalled Alfredo sauce is packaged in 3-pound, 7-ounce units, which are sealed in poly bags. Each case of sauce holds 12 bags, and they feature the UPC code 0039954921963. Consumers should take note of the expiration dates, which range from 12 January 2028 to 20 April 2028.
Distribution of the affected product spans across a vast number of states, including Alabama, California, Florida, Texas, and New York, among others. The widespread nature of the recall raises concerns about the potential for numerous consumers to be unknowingly affected, putting their health at risk.
While the recall is active, the FDA has not provided information about any reported illnesses stemming from the consumption of the Alfredo sauce. It is crucial to note that Salmonella is a bacterium that can lead to gastrointestinal illness. Symptoms usually manifest within 12 to 72 hours after exposure, often including diarrhoea, fever, stomach cramps, and, in some cases, a high fever.
The duration of the illness can extend up to a week, with most individuals recovering without requiring medical treatment. However, it is essential to understand that Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children under five, adults over the age of 50 with pre-existing medical conditions, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Consumers who have purchased the affected Alfredo sauce are advised to refrain from using it and to return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. The FDA continues to monitor the situation and recommends that anyone exhibiting symptoms of Salmonella infection seek medical attention promptly.
As this situation develops, it serves as a timely reminder of the importance of food safety and the vigilance required to ensure public health. The FDA has urged consumers to stay informed as further updates regarding this recall may emerge.
