Woman, 63, Dies After She’s Struck by Her Own Vehicle That Was Left in Reverse

Tragedy has struck in Indian Land, South Carolina, as authorities confirm that a 63-year-old woman lost her life on Wednesday evening, June 10, after being struck by her own vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The victim, identified as Margaret McWeeney, reportedly exited her car without realising that it was still in reverse.

According to Lancaster County Coroner Karla Deese, the unfortunate incident occurred at Madison Ridge Apartments. Eyewitness accounts suggest that as McWeeney attempted to re-enter her vehicle, the car began to roll backward. In a split-second decision, she reached for the controls but mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

The vehicle, now accelerating in reverse, struck McWeeney as well as several other parked cars before coming to a halt.
