Tim Allen Says He ‘Cannot Speak in Public’ Because People Recognize Buzz Lightyear’s Voice

Tim Allen, the voice behind the beloved character Buzz Lightyear since the inception of Pixar’s ‘Toy Story’ in 1995, is set to reprise his iconic role once more in the highly anticipated ‘Toy Story 5’. In a recent interview with SiriusXM, Allen shared his experiences regarding the recognisability of his voice, particularly in public settings. The actor, now 72, revealed that his wife, Jane Hajduk, often has to remind him to keep quiet when they are out at events such as sports games. “My wife loves going to football games, and I love it, but I cannot speak in public because of Buzz Lightyear,” he explained. This aversion to being overheard allows him to blend in a bit more while also accommodating his wife’s desire to enjoy social outings without too much attention.

Allen recounted a memorable incident when he and his family attended a performance of ‘The Wiz’ in Chicago. Despite his attempts to maintain a low profile, other theatre-goers mistook him for Hanks, further emphasising the unmistakable link between his voice and Buzz Lightyear. He joked, “So we’re sitting there, and there’s a really good play, and I get up and walk away, and three of the ladies behind me go, ‘Tom, we just love you in Toy Story.’ And I thought, ‘Oh, no.'”
