Bailey expressed, “My love for Italy knows no bounds—the food, the culture and the people—so it was a no-brainer.” He recounted the nearly 15 years of annual visits to Italy, where cycling has become a cherished ritual for him. “I grew up with Martini in the house, and there’s nothing more sophisticated and alluring than a Martini spritz,” he added, highlighting the drink’s connection to his fond memories.
Last summer marked Bailey’s first collaboration with Martini, during which he celebrated the Martini spritz and the concept of “going off script.” This year, he has taken on the identity of “The Martini Man,” a role he relishes. “I know it’s a big and bold legacy, and I hope to do all the Martini men and all the Italian people proud,” he noted. His latest short film commences with a striking scene of him arriving at an estate near Venice in a vintage 1970s Martini racing car, paying homage to the brand’s illustrious racing history.

The film showcases Bailey engaging in delightful rituals essential to embodying The Martini Man. “It was everything that I think a summer aperitivo should be,” he remarked, reflecting on the creative spirit of the campaign and the stunning backdrop of Italy. For Bailey, the campaign rekindled nostalgic memories of his past Italian adventures, such as cycling through the idyllic Tuscan hills or savouring sunsets by the sea. “Those memories you take with you… it immediately connects to that Italian elegance,” he mused, noting the importance of enjoying a spritz to set the tone for a relaxed evening.
After wrapping his promotional tour for *Wicked: For Good*, Bailey has taken the time to engage with family and friends while working on his philanthropic initiative, The Shameless Fund, aimed at empowering the LGBTQ+ community. He reflected on the past year, sharing anecdotes of also serving as Best Man at the wedding of his close friends, Sacha Dhawan and Anjli Mohindra. “Sometimes you miss out on really key moments because you’re working, but it was such a brilliant few weeks,” he recalled, filled with gratitude for the experiences that enriched his life.
Currently, Bailey is immersed in filming a new project in Germany and is eager for the summer adventures that await him. He anticipates enjoying weekends spent cycling and savouring the balmy evenings with a refreshing spritz at hand. His plans also include trips to the Dolomites and attending music festivals with friends, making the most of his time off set.
When asked about whether people recognise him while cycling, Bailey jokingly replied, “No, because I’m in head-to-toe Lycra.” He added, “But they will if I start singing, probably,” showcasing his lighthearted approach to fame. His ideal summer day paints a picturesque scene filled with leisurely activities: beginning with coffee, followed by a swim, a good book, an indulgent lunch, and ending with dinner and dancing—”That sounds amazing. That’s the fantasy,” he shared.
Nevertheless, he winked at the contrast between his fantasy and reality, which often involves early mornings, challenging bike rides to set, and a series of mishaps. He quipped, “It’s getting up early, cross-eyed cycling to the set, getting lost, missing breakfast… and then wobbling home because I’ve lost my bike.”
Since being named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive, Bailey has embraced the honour with a mix of humour and humility. “It’s been exhausting,” he joked, while also acknowledging the thrill of the experience. “I’m hoping the next recipient is in training, and I look forward to handing the baton over. It’s been a majestic eight months,” he stated. With a nod to his new partnership with Martini, he concluded, “And now we can toast with our Martini Bianco Spritz.”
As Bailey gears up for a vibrant summer filled with new projects, social events, and of course, delicious spritzes, his journey illustrates not just professional success but a commitment to cherished personal connections and memorable experiences.
