Author Elle Cosimano is set to delight her fans with the upcoming release of her novel, *Finlay Donovan Plays with Fire*. This seventh instalment in the popular Finlay Donovan series is expected to hit the shelves on March 16, 2027. The cover has been revealed exclusively to *PEOPLE*, tantalising readers with a glimpse into the latest story featuring the amateur sleuth.
The Finlay Donovan series has gained significant acclaim, centring on the life of its titular character, Finlay, a romance novelist who inadvertently finds herself embroiled in a series of real-life murder mysteries. Cosimano has harnessed her creativity, stating, “I’ve never had so much fun writing as I have while coming up with fresh stories for this series. I love these books and this fandom so much!”
In *Finlay Donovan Plays with Fire*, the narrative unfolds as Finlay grapples with the mysterious disappearance of her neighbour, Stacey Pickens, following a heated altercation between the two. What starts as a personal concern escalates dramatically when it is revealed that the forensic photographer assigned to the investigation is linked to Finlay’s boyfriend, a police officer named Nick. As tensions rise, Finlay finds herself at the heart of the unfolding drama, her instincts as a writer doubling as those of a detective.
As the plot thickens, Finlay and Nick soon discover they may be entangled in a sinister situation as the missing persons case transitions into a potential homicide. Complications arise when Nick’s prior confrontations with Stacey come to light, positioning both characters as prime suspects. In an effort to clear their names, they take it upon themselves to investigate the unsettling events.
The upcoming book is intended to be a blend of comedy and thrilling mystery, a signature style that has captivated readers throughout the series. Cosimano describes this latest work as an opportunity for her audience to further explore the unique mix of humour and suspense that characterises her writing.
In addition to the new book, Cosimano’s imaginative world is set to reach a broader audience through a television adaptation. Earlier in March, it was announced that stars Tina Fey and Lang Fisher will collaborate on transforming *Finlay Donovan is Killing It*, the first book of the series, into a TV show for the streaming service Peacock. This development has ignited excitement among fans, with Cosimano noting the increasing global appeal of her characters and stories.
The author expressed her enthusiasm for the ongoing growth of the Finlay Donovan community, stating, “With seven books already out, a TV adaptation in the works, and three more books on the way, it’s exciting to watch the global community of Finlay fans continue to grow.” Her passion for storytelling appears to resonate not just with her readers, but also with those creatively adapting her work for the screen.
As anticipation builds for *Finlay Donovan Plays with Fire*, fans are reminded that the book is available for pre-order at various retailers. Cosimano’s ability to intertwine relatable characters with captivating plots promises to deliver yet another engaging chapter in Finlay Donovan’s saga.
