Amanda Katz, a former administrative assistant at Roswell High School in Georgia, has been arrested on charges relating to inappropriate sexual contact with a 16-year-old student. The arrest, made by local police, highlights serious concerns regarding teacher-student relationships and safeguarding practices within educational institutions.

The allegations against Katz, who is now 55 years old, came to light after a family trip over Valentine’s weekend in February, during which evidence of inappropriate conduct was reportedly discovered on the teenager’s mobile phone by his mother. Following this revelation, a social worker within the Fulton County Schools system notified the authorities, prompting further investigation into the matter.
According to a police affidavit, the inappropriate relationship is believed to have begun in December preceding the incident. Upon her return to school on February 16, Katz was observed behaving erratically, disclosing to colleagues that a relationship with a male student had been curtailed by the boy’s mother. This conversation ultimately led to concerns regarding the nature of Katz’s interactions with the student.
An investigation commenced in early March, during which authorities obtained a search warrant for the teen’s phone. The subsequent examination revealed an alarming number of communications between Katz and the student—comprising over 19,000 text messages and 591 phone calls between December 24 and February 17. This substantial correspondence contained discussions of their relationship, explicit plans for their future, and various sexual encounters, with Katz acknowledging her awareness of the illegality of their conduct.
In several text messages, Katz reportedly expressed her emotional attachment to the student, stating, “I can’t stop looking at you and certainly keep my hands to myself.” She also conveyed her fears about job security, asking the student to erase incriminating messages. Furthermore, she admitted in a text, “I have done a lot of stupid things. A lot. But this is top level,” which indicates her recognition of the severity of her actions.
In interviews conducted by authorities, the student recounted conversations about future living arrangements, where Katz allegedly suggested he could move in with her after his school graduation. He described her desire to deepen their relationship, offering financial support and implying a commitment that extended beyond mere friendship. Such unsettling revelations raise significant questions about the power dynamics at play in their interactions.
Gifts exchanged between the two included personal items for the teenager, with Katz reportedly gifting him a spinning ring, a pocketknife, and even a Nintendo Switch for his siblings. The student stated that Katz had mentioned a desire to relocate to Mexico with him, a notion he found perplexing and concerning.
In light of the allegations, Katz voluntarily resigned from her position at Roswell High School on April 30. She was subsequently arrested on June 2 amidst ongoing inquiries by law enforcement. As of now, she has not been formally indicted by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, and attempts to contact her legal representation have gone unanswered.
The incident has prompted widespread discussions on the challenges associated with maintaining appropriate boundaries within educational settings. As investigations proceed, law enforcement encourages members of the community to come forward with any additional information related to this case or similar occurrences.
Those with pertinent information are urged to contact Detective McGinniss at Roswell Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers Atlanta. The community’s involvement is vital in ensuring the safety and integrity of local educational environments.
