Actor Shia LaBeouf has pleaded guilty to charges of misdemeanor battery connected to an incident at a New Orleans bar during Mardi Gras festivities in February. The 39-year-old entered his plea at a courthouse in New Orleans on June 3, 2025, coming after a tumultuous few months marked by various legal troubles.

As part of his sentencing, LaBeouf was placed on two years of probation, mandated to participate in alcohol abuse rehabilitation, as well as attend sensitivity training and anger management classes. His attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, expressed to reporters that the altercation was merely a “minor bar tussle,” and dismissed any insinuations of bias surrounding the investigation.
The actor was initially arrested following the altercation and charged with two counts of simple battery. He faced an additional charge in February, expanding the accusations against him to three misdemeanor counts. A hearing later that month resulted in LaBeouf being ordered to engage in substance abuse treatment, subjected to drug testing, and required to post a bond of $100,000 for his release.
Reports from the New Orleans Police Department detailed that LaBeouf allegedly became disorderly at the bar, resulting in his ejection from the premises. Eyewitness accounts suggest he struck one individual before leaving the scene, only to return and allegedly strike the same victim again while assaulting a second person. Following the incident, he was transported to a hospital for unspecified injuries, and footage emerged of LaBeouf receiving medical assistance from paramedics outside the bar.
One victim, who aided in restraining LaBeouf until law enforcement arrived, detailed to media representatives that the actor was behaving erratically, “lunging at” other patrons while uttering homophobic slurs. This interaction highlighted the severity of LaBeouf’s behaviour during the altercation and the chaos it caused amongst bar-goers.
Just hours following his release, social media activity showed LaBeouf in a carefree light, as he was spotted partying on Bourbon Street, carrying his jail release paperwork in his mouth. A post on his X account read “Free me,” indicating his mindset immediately after the incident.
Sources revealed that LaBeouf had recently sought a fresh start in New Orleans following a split from his on-and-off girlfriend Mia Goth, with whom he shares a daughter, Isabel, born in 2022. This move was expected to be a pivotal moment in the actor’s life, allowing him space to reflect and rebuild.
In the wake of these legal troubles, LaBeouf’s attorney remains optimistic about his client’s future pursuits. Chervinsky stated that LaBeouf is now focusing on “family, work and new creative projects,” suggesting a desire to distance himself from the chaos that has characterised his recent life choices.
This latest chapter in LaBeouf’s story comes after a number of previous run-ins with law enforcement that have spanned several years, raising concerns about his behaviour and wellbeing. His recent legal obligations aim to provide a structured path toward rehabilitation and a hopeful return to the public eye in a revived capacity.
As the actor embarks on this new phase, supporters and critics alike will be watching closely to see how he navigates the challenges ahead and whether he can redirect his life positively moving forward.
