In a chilling development in the case of Maya Millete, a former detective has provided testimony regarding surveillance footage that captured a freezer being transported away from her Chula Vista home shortly after her disappearance. The hearing took place on June 1, and it marked a significant moment in the trial of her husband, Larry Millete, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder.

Former detective Jesse Vicente, who served as the lead investigator on the case, shared crucial details with the court about the timeline surrounding Maya’s last known activities. He explained that surveillance footage showed a white SUV, belonging to Larry Millete’s aunt, being loaded with a freezer just two days after Maya was last seen alive on January 7, 2021. Vicente stated that Maya, a 39-year-old mother of three, was last seen returning to her home at approximately 4:43 p.m. on that date. No video evidence has since been discovered showing her departure from the residence.
The mysterious circumstances surrounding her disappearance have intensified as jurors were presented with audio evidence recorded by a neighbour’s surveillance system. Vicente recounted how several loud bangs were heard that night around 8:45 p.m. The investigation revealed that these noises continued intermittently over the course of the evening. Both local authorities and the FBI examined the audio, but no definitive explanation for the sounds has been found.

As the case unfolds, jurors were also taken through a timeline created using neighbourhood surveillance footage to illustrate activity around the Millete home. The footage revealed movements around the family’s Lexus on January 8, which indicated the vehicle was loaded and unloaded multiple times throughout the day. Vicente described this activity as “unusual,” especially since it left investigators unable to confirm the nature of the activities linked to the vehicle during that time.
Maya Millete’s disappearance occurred against a backdrop of personal turmoil, as she reportedly expressed a desire to divorce Larry. The prosecution has argued that this decision may have been a catalyst for her husband’s alleged actions. San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan, during Larry’s arrest announcement, indicated that Maya’s final cell phone call was to a divorce attorney, which, according to the prosecution, signifies her intent to finalise the separation.
Furthermore, Stephan alleged that Larry had engaged with self-identified spellcasters in an attempt to prevent his wife from leaving him and even sought assistance to have her incapacitated. This disturbing claim adds another layer of complexity to the case as it suggests premeditated intent behind the alleged crime.

As legal proceedings continue, the emotional toll on Maya’s family remains palpable. Her children, aged 4, 9, and 11, have been central to community efforts to locate her, with fundraising initiatives set up to aid in the search. Despite the lack of a body, prosecutors are committed to pursuing justice for Maya, insisting on the strength of the circumstantial evidence against Larry.
The trial is set to progress through the trial week, with both the defence and prosecution expected to present additional evidence and testimonies. As the jury considers the evidence presented thus far, there remains a sense of urgency for answers in a case that has gripped the hearts of many across California and beyond.
As developments unfold, the community continues to hold hope that justice will ultimately prevail for Maya Millete and her family.
