In a shocking incident from West Melbourne, Florida, a former daycare worker has been accused of multiple counts of battery and one count of assault after allegedly harming several young children in her care. Latasha Mullings, aged 41, was employed at Mustard Seed Kids when the alleged incidents took place.
According to court records obtained from Brevard County, Mullings faces an alarming 11 counts of battery along with a single count of assault. The allegations came to light following a complaint from a concerned parent, who reported that Mullings had flicked their child in the face. This prompted the daycare’s director, Kaitlin Fletcher, to take immediate action and review surveillance footage from the classroom.

The troubling events were captured over a week’s worth of video, from May 19 to May 26. The footage revealed Mullings striking five different toddlers, all aged between two and four years old, on at least 11 separate occasions. Specific instances witnessed in the video include two children being struck on the head with a metal stapler, an act described in the probable cause affidavit.

Furthermore, the footage allegedly shows Mullings throwing her shoe at one child, although she missed her target. Another child was reportedly slapped three times in the face, while another was struck with a bucket and a stuffed animal. In yet another incident, a child’s hand was hit with a shoe, raising serious concerns about Mullings’ conduct in the classroom.
The gravity of the situation escalated when Fletcher confronted Mullings on May 26 regarding the footage. During this encounter, Mullings reportedly commented, “My babies are gonna miss me,” before her termination from the daycare took place.
Following the complaint, the director contacted law enforcement, who promptly intervened. Mullings was arrested on charges relating to her alleged actions and was scheduled to appear in court on May 29. However, that hearing was later cancelled, and she secured bail prior to the scheduled appearance. As of now, it remains unclear when she will next face court proceedings and whether she has entered a plea or obtained legal representation.
The incident has raised significant alarm within the local community and among parents of children attending the daycare. Mustard Seed Kids has become the focus of attention as they navigate the implications of this case and work to ensure the safety and well-being of their students.
As the legal process continues, parents remain concerned about the oversight at the daycare and the measures that are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. The safety of children in care facilities is paramount, and this case serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of vigilance and accountability within childcare environments.
With many questions yet to be answered, the community awaits further developments in Mullings’ case, which has highlighted the urgency of ensuring that the youngest members of society are cared for in a safe and nurturing environment.
