At the premiere of Apple TV+’s latest miniseries, “Cape Fear”, held at the DGA Theatre in West Hollywood, actress Lily Collias shared her appreciation for her co-star Amy Adams, describing her as a guiding force during the filming process. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Collias expressed her gratitude for Adams’ mentorship while portraying the role of her character’s daughter in the psychological thriller.

Collias, 21, reflected on her experiences of filming, noting how Adams took her under her wing. “She really felt like a mother figure throughout the production,” said Collias. “And she was such a powerhouse that led with her heart. It was truly magical to be around her.” The young star added that she often asked Adams to sing from her memorable role in “Enchanted” in an effort to calm her nerves. “I would always ask, ‘Amy, can you sing a little Enchanted song, please?’ Her voice is perfect. Always in the right tone,” Collias commented, clearly delighted by her co-star’s talents.

“Cape Fear” features a stellar cast that includes Javier Bardem and Patrick Wilson, and it is an adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel “The Executioners”. The story revolves around a notorious killer, played by Bardem, who is released from prison and seeks revenge against a couple, portrayed by Adams and Wilson, as well as their daughter, Collias. The narrative has previously been adapted into film versions in 1962 and 1991 by acclaimed director Martin Scorsese.
Collias acknowledged the challenge of stepping into a role previously played by actress Juliette Lewis, who garnered an Oscar nomination for her part as Danielle in the 1991 film. “Juliette is so magical and perfect in that film,” she remarked. “Her character has these aspects of youthfulness and secrecy.” Embracing this legacy, Collias incorporated a nod to Lewis’ portrayal by sporting bangs during filming, although she made it clear that she aimed to carve her own distinct interpretation of the character.
Adams, for her part, discussed the nuanced nature of her role as Anna Bowden, noting that while it shares some characteristics with earlier versions, her portrayal is “very different.” “I absolutely love a feminine woman, a steel magnolia if you will,” Adams explained. “That intelligence and that strength, that fortitude and the need to protect your family — I hope that’s all there.” This unique take is set to appeal to audiences seeking depth in the characters.
The Oscar-winning actress also reflected on the significance of reuniting with director Steven Spielberg for the first time since their collaboration on “Catch Me If You Can” in 2002. “I really wanted to please Steven,” she revealed, highlighting her desire to impress the legendary filmmaker who played a pivotal role in launching her career. “I hope to work with him again in the future,” Adams expressed, showcasing her admiration for Spielberg.
As excitement builds for the release of “Cape Fear”, fans can look forward to its premiere on June 5. With the combination of its talented cast and the pedigree of its creative team, it promises to be one of the standout productions of the year on Apple TV+.
The premiere evening also saw a gathering of other notable figures in the industry, with actors and filmmakers mingling to celebrate the launch of this promising miniseries. As the red carpet rolled out, the buzz surrounding both Collias and Adams was palpable, with many curious to see how this adaptation will be received compared to its predecessors.
The anticipation for “Cape Fear” continues to grow, as both Collias and Adams’ performances are expected to resonate with audiences, alongside a compelling narrative that holds the potential for a thrilling viewing experience.
