Emerging from the vibrant musical landscape of Seattle, the electropop band Bloodwerk has captured attention with their latest single, “The Other Side”. Featuring a striking music video directed by renowned filmmaker Leigh Whannell, the project is a fresh collaboration between actor and musician Ned Brower and composer John E. Low.

Brower, who recently made waves with his role as Nurse Jesse in the series *The Pitt*, brings a wealth of musical experience to Bloodwerk. Previously, he gained notoriety as part of the indie-rock band Rooney in the early 2000s. However, it was during his formative years in Seattle that he truly honed his musical craft amidst the grunge movement, a background that has significantly influenced his current work.

The genesis of Bloodwerk traces back to a shared experience between Brower and Low, who have been friends for over a decade. They found inspiration after attending a live show that left them feeling underwhelmed. Both felt a spark of creativity, believing they could produce something far superior. “We realised, after some previous collaborations, that this was a venture we wanted to pursue purely for ourselves,” Brower explained.
Low, who has his roots in the Seattle music scene as a member of the ’90s band The Actual Tigers, echoed Brower’s sentiments. “We’re not bound by the constraints of a record label or industry executives,” he said. “This project allows us complete creative control, which is invigorating.”
In March, the duo debuted their first two singles, “Truth Will Tell” and “Sound of Mind,” featuring vocals from Z Berg. Their latest release, “The Other Side,” showcases the band’s evolution and experimentation within the electropop genre. Whannell’s involvement in the project is a testament to their belief in collaboration, as he has made a name for himself in the horror genre with franchises like *Saw* and *Insidious*.
The band’s collaborative spirit extends to their choice of names; “Bloodwerk” carries a dual significance. Brower recounts an impromptu brainstorming session while working in a clinic, where a colleague suggested the name based on his work with blood tubes. The clever spelling pays homage to the influential electronic group Kraftwerk, blending context with musical heritage.
Brower and Low’s process has also seen them incorporate familiar faces into their work. *The Pitt* star Irene Choi appears in the video for their first single, “Truth Will Tell”. While discussing filming with Choi, Brower casually invited her to join. “She wasn’t put off by the idea, and it turned into an enjoyable portrayal,” he added, highlighting the spontaneous and organic nature of their creative process.
With an amalgamation of influences, Bloodwerk aims to carve a unique niche within the pop-electronic landscape. “Our sound is reminiscent of artists like Justice, Tame Impala and the Pet Shop Boys,” Brower noted. “We want to create an LA-inspired feel while drawing on the melodic anthems of ’80s new wave—a blend that respects both the past and the present.”
Looking to the future, Bloodwerk aspires to expand their discography, with plans for a full-length album on the horizon. “We’ve written enough material for an album but intend to introduce our music gradually,” Low explained. “Releasing two tracks at a time allows us to engage meaningfully with our audience, culminating in an album later on.”
Brower and Low are adaptable to the changing dynamics of the music industry, keen to embrace a rollout strategy that keeps pace with listener engagement. “We’re aware of the attention economy,” Brower acknowledged. “However, if we gather the right partnership down the road, it would be fantastic to dedicate a month purely to immerse ourselves in creating an album.”
As they navigate their journey, Bloodwerk stands poised at the confluence of creativity, collaboration, and passion, ready to make their mark on the music scene with authenticity and an unwavering spirit. With promising new releases and a fresh approach to their craft, the duo invites both old fans and new listeners to join them on their evolving musical odyssey.
