Actor Matt Damon recently shared insights into his role as Odysseus in the upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’, scheduled for cinema release on 17th July. In a revealing interview with GQ, Damon discussed the physical demands of the role, his dramatic body transformation, and the unique challenges faced during filming.
Damon, who is now 55 years old, displayed a remarkable physique in the cover story, revealing that he had reduced his weight to 167 pounds for the film, significantly below his typical weight range of 185 to 200 pounds. Reflecting on his dramatic fitness regime, he noted, “I haven’t been that light since high school.” To achieve this transformation, he adhered to a strict diet and engaged in intensive training.
The physical changes were first evident to fans in March 2025, when images surfaced of a muscular Damon with defined abs during filming. His friend and fellow actor Ben Affleck humorously pointed out the buzz surrounding the shirtless shots, which captured the attention of audiences and media alike.

“The joke on the crew was we didn’t have a single easy location,” Damon elaborated during the interview. “The funniest thing happened, which is just all of the things that might have been difficult for me at an earlier point in my life weren’t difficult. He elaborated that even being drenched and cold became part of a unique adventure, giving him a sense of fulfilment he had long sought.
