A Massachusetts photographer has shared his harrowing experience of being stabbed during a wedding reception in an unprovoked attack. On May 23, Donald Halsing, along with his fiancée Ashley Wall, were working at the Kingsley Campground in Raymond, Maine, when the shocking incident occurred.

Halsing, 26, was near the stage with the DJ when a man, later identified as 26-year-old Andrew Manderson, approached him under the guise of discussing photography services. In a chilling turn of events, instead of taking out a phone to jot down notes, Manderson allegedly produced a pocketknife and stabbed Halsing in the abdomen.

Recounting the moment, Halsing stated, “I looked down and I saw I was bleeding.” His fiancée, Ashley Wall, was quick to come to his aid along with several bridesmaids, all of whom were medical professionals. They managed to apply pressure to his wounds, ensuring he remained stable until emergency services arrived.

Following the attack, Halsing was transported to Maine Medical Centre by the Raymond Fire Department where he underwent surgery for two significant lacerations, one of which affected his liver. He is now recovering at home but has been unable to return to work, leading to financial strain for the couple.
In response to the medical expenses and loss of income, a GoFundMe page has been initiated to help support Halsing and Wall during this difficult time. A message on the fundraising page described Halsing as someone who “would never hurt a fly” and highlighted the long journey ahead for recovery.
The couple, who have been together for nearly eight years and recently moved into their first home, are now facing additional challenges, including the need to modify their wedding plans. Wall expressed her concern, revealing that she has had to reduce their budget and make significant cuts to their upcoming wedding arrangements.
“I’ve had to call our wedding vendors and cut things from our budget, and flowers and decor, and we no longer have a coordinator,” Wall explained. She added that her priorities have shifted to focus on medical bills and rent rather than wedding expenses.
The psychological impact of the stabbing has also cast a shadow over Halsing’s recovery. He expressed feelings of trauma and confusion, stating, “You can never really know what’s going on in a person’s brain. I just want to know why he did this, and I want to know if he feels sorry.” He anticipates that the ramifications of this incident will be longstanding.
Andrew Manderson has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault following the incident, according to local police. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack continues, with many witnesses stepping forward to provide information.
As the couple navigates through this tumultuous period, they continue to receive support from friends and family. The outpouring of kindness has underscored the strength of their community as they work towards healing both physically and emotionally.
Donald Halsing’s experience serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of violence, even in environments that are meant to be joyful. As he focuses on recovery, the couple remains hopeful for brighter days ahead, including their wedding, now altered by circumstances beyond their control.
