In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 40-year-old reality star shared some of her essential travel items, ensuring she remains comfortable and glamorous while overseeing the dating competition. Madix detailed her extensive packing strategies, which include a variety of workout gear. “I pack a lot of workout stuff,” she explained, adding that she now brings items such as resistance bands to maintain her fitness routine while away.

In addition to her exercise equipment, Madix makes sure to have an ample selection of swimwear for her time in Fiji. “I definitely bring some bathing suits,” she remarked. Her wardrobe for set life is equally crucial; she incorporates comfortable clothes for both her time on-camera and when she is off-duty. “I bring a lot of clothes that I can wear to set, so when I’m in glam I can be comfortable, and then I have something comfy to put on afterwards,” she elaborated.
Self-care also plays a significant role in her travel essentials. Madix is a fan of sheet masks, which she finds easy to carry and indulgent. “I bring a ton of different sheet masks. They’re easy to pack, they don’t weigh a lot, and then I feel nice and luxurious,” she noted, underlining her commitment to self-pampering amidst the busy filming schedule.
Madix’s association with Love Island USA began when she first made an appearance as a guest during season six, and she has since transitioned to a full-time hosting position. Reflecting on this milestone, she shared, “Honestly, being the host of Love Island is something that I think I would’ve talked about in my living room with my friends as a dream job I would love to have.” She acknowledged how the show has exceeded her expectations, stating, “I don’t know that I would have expected what happened with the show to happen.”
The reality series has seen a surge in viewership, establishing itself as a top contender among streaming shows, both scripted and unscripted. “To be able to say that — not only am I the host of my favourite show, but I’m also the host of the number-one show in all of streaming — that’s something I’m very, very proud to be a part of,” Madix expressed.
Guiding the cast in the villa, Madix encourages contestants to embrace authenticity. “It sounds cliché, but be yourself, because being yourself is what made the people who make the show fall in love with you, and that’s what’s gonna make the audience fall in love with you,” she advised, emphasising the importance of being genuine during their reality television journey.
Despite her experience, Madix admits to struggling with her reactions, particularly when contestants make controversial decisions. “I try to keep a straight face, but as our showrunner, Ben Thursby-Palmer, will tell you, I’m not very good at keeping a poker face sometimes,” she confessed. Madix acknowledged that her candid expressions can be a double-edged sword but also believed it adds to her charm as a host.
When asked about future contestants she would like to see transition from the Bravo universe to Love Island USA, Madix named Paige DeSorbo, citing her no-nonsense attitude. “I know she just wouldn’t take any nonsense from anyone,” she stated, envisioning a dynamic addition to the show.
As fans eagerly await the premiere of Season 8, all eyes will be on Madix as she continues to weave her unique blend of enthusiasm and authenticity into the Love Island experience. The sun-kissed backdrop of Fiji promises to set the stage for yet another unforgettable summer of romance, drama, and memorable moments.
