Dalina Hanna, the younger of the two sisters at 28, had been preparing for her induction on the morning of May 22 after surpassing her due date of May 15. Just after midnight, she gave birth to a daughter named Maria Magdalena El-Houssan. “For some reason, we had a feeling that we would both have the baby on the same day,” Dalina commented. However, the actual event left her in disbelief.

Meanwhile, her elder sister, 33-year-old Jouliana Fazah, was also past her own due date of May 17. On the morning of Dalina’s delivery, she visited the hospital to meet her newborn niece. However, an unexpected turn of events occurred as she was leaving the hospital. Jouliana recalled, “When we were leaving the hospital, that’s when my water broke in the car.”
Quickly reacting, her husband turned the car around and they made a speedy return to the hospital. That evening, Jouliana delivered a healthy boy named Jack Fazah at 10:09 PM. “Everyone was shocked. They could not believe that this happened the way that it did,” Jouliana said, reflecting on the sheer amazement of the day.
Hospital staff played a significant role in making the occasion even more special. They facilitated the sisters recovering in adjacent rooms to share in the joy of their experiences. As the births unfolded, their parents found themselves caught in a delightful conundrum, as Dalina noted, “Our parents were going between the rooms… They didn’t know which baby to pick up first.”
Both sisters hail from Oxford, Massachusetts, and have expressed their excitement about raising their children alongside one another. They fondly refer to their little ones as “twin cousins,” and are eager for future birthday celebrations together. “They’re going to grow up together… They might love each other, they might hate each other,” Dalina remarked with a good-natured laugh. “But they’ll always have each other.”
The sisters’ experience highlights the close-knit bond that family shares, especially in such significant life milestones. They are not only delighted to have given birth on the same day, but they also relish the thought of their children forming a deep connection as they grow. With both babies now part of the same family, the familiar journey of motherhood will be enriched by the presence of an additional sibling.
Adding a humorous note to the conversation, Dalina declared that her daughter Maria deserves “respect” from her younger cousin Jack since she is technically the elder sibling. This light-hearted spirit encapsulates the joy that both families are feeling during this period of new beginnings.
As Dalina and Jouliana embark on their journey as mothers, they are eager to create cherished memories with their families, undoubtedly weaving a narrative that will be shared for generations to come. The shared experiences of the sisters and their children serve as a touching reminder of the joys that often accompany family life.
